Your right on. There are some distubrbing p similarities between yesterday and today. The example of the Irish is right on. Its not very popular to say but many people that are bashing these "mexicans" forget people like the Irish and the Italians. During the great migration when blacks were moving up North, Southern Farmers were in quite a pickle. They had to replace this labor. So they went and imported in places like Mississippi vast numbers of Italians.Well these Italians were in the early years overworked, mistreated, and they were the subject of some fear. Well my gosh they assimilated into whats best of American life and the whole World didn't fall apart.

Louisiana, gets some bashing(some well deserved), but how its handled race. different ethnic groups, different languages has taught me the whole World is not going to fall apart in the USA if this happens. I knew people whose parents and Grandparents spoke only French in rural South Louisiana. The Children of course like the folks today learned English so they could go after their dreams but they were pround of their heritage.

So, I guess if Louisiana can handle at times a huge French Population, a huge Anglo population,Africans. Italians, Irish, and in NOLA the largest Southern population of Cubans and Hondurans outside Miami then I am sure the nation will survive and in fact thrive.

You and I see eye to eye. One of my great'grandmothers was born in New Orleans in 1865, and when her mother was widowed a few years later she returned to Baltimore with 5 children. This bit of family history drove my interest in genealogy and social history of the Nineteenth Century. These great'great'grandparents were Irish immigrants from the famine years who had the courage to cross the Atlantic, and then to look for a better life down the Mississippi. I say thanks every day that they had the courage to live through all the hardships that they experienced.

America will survive this new wave of immigration, and we will be stronger for it, - if we do not allow the dems to totally throw away all the values that have made our country great, in their efforts to pander to the lowest common denominator.

Turning our backs on Republican legislators in our frustration at their molasses speed of addressing the issue will be SO VERY STUPID, I have to use all caps to say it.
