The site I linked was a .Gov site. So it is official.

Maybe if they pass some legislation people will become aware of the requirements.

I think the ballots should be in English.

I think the drivers license test should be in English.

How about the assimilation?

How about the desire to be a citizen?

How about you?

:)Easy Does It:)

You are not answering my question. And I think bi-linguel education was and is a horrible idea. It slows down the issue of immigrants learning English a bit, although they learn it anyway, just not sufficiently well to master most white collar jobs. Few master a second language past a certain age, without a great deal of effort. It is a generational thingy. I think the language issue is BS, and the English as a national language is meaningless symbolism, that has no real statutory impact on anything. If there was a statute, that you couldn't get anything in this society without filling out a form in English, that would be another matter. But that is equally inane.

You are correct eazy. Being able to speak English is a requirement for citizenship. And Torie, you are correct in your statement that many American citizens "don't" speak English. Heck, my own wife is a "naturalized" citizen from Germany (who did have to know English to pass her citizenship exam) and we speak German together quite often. We have the right to "speak" in which ever language "we" choose.

But that argument has nothing to do with the topic. English is ipso facto the national language. In fact in most places doing business on the global scene it is the language of the world.

At this particular juncture, however, it would be a good thing if GW supported making it the "national language". It is a symbolic sort of thing and either he or his AG just don't get it.

GW, my president, has tried way to hard, in my opinion, to govern from the "middle" and has done very little to be the bully spokesman for Constitutional Conservatism.

I posted previously ... English Plus is soooooooooooo .... Compassionate Conservatism.
