U.S. to Turn Over 16 Saudis From Guantánamo to Riyadh

U.S. to Turn Over 16 Saudis From Guantánamo to Riyadh

WASHINGTON, May 17 — The United States plans to turn over 16 Saudis suspected of terrorist activities and held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, to Saudi Arabian authorities, the Saudi foreign minister and American officials said Wednesday.

The decision to release the men came after months of wrangling over American demands for guarantees that they would be treated humanely once in Saudi custody, but it was not entirely clear what sort of agreement had been reached.

A Saudi official said Saudi Arabia had refused American demands that the men be allowed visits by American officials or by the International Committee of the Red Cross. Instead, he said, access would be given to the Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Society and Saudi human rights groups.

.....

The Saudi foreign minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal, disclosed the impending release at a meeting with reporters at his embassy, and he emphasized that various legal procedures would be carefully followed.

"We receive tomorrow or after tomorrow the first 16 of them," he said. In Saudi Arabia, he added, "they will be incarcerated and checked, and we'll see what the proof against them is."

"If the proof against them justifies trial, they will be put on trial," he added. "If they are proved guilty, they will be incarcerated. If they are proved innocent, they will be let out."

The Saudis will try them. LOL

This is why I support Bandar in 2008. We may catch more terrorists who are Saudis- what are the odds- and we need a terror fighting President who sends them back to Saudi Arabia.

Theory I heard from Amb. Ginsberg on Fox in regards to the "riot" was along the lines of "They want to be dead before the Saudi govt. gets a hold of them"

Either way works for me.

Could we possibly turn over their "tab" to the Saudis and ask for compensation for taking care of these guys all this time?

That would be true if they were enemies of the Saudis, wanting to bring some sort of Democracy to the place.

If they are anti American terrorists they will be well fed and will find their way to Iraq to kill Americans and continue their interrupted Jihad.

What the heck?

Have we grown attached to these dirtbags? What are they - some adorable puppies we now have to give back to their rightful owner?

I have no love for the Saudi Government, which is up to its whisky-soaked eyeballs in jihad exportation. That said, I'd send these 16 back with Bibles and/or Torahs, along with Crucifix /Star of David tatoos, explaining to Riyadh that all renounced Islam and adopted new faiths while in Gitmo.

I remember the mother of a Russian detainee. She publicly begged Bush not to send her son back to Russia.

If one of those pagan muts that's released kills another American I will hold the Administration responsible. I pray for the father that will receive this news in the future. He's a much stronger man that I could ever be.

"The Saudis will try them. LOL"

Maybe we could send their pro bono limp wrist lawyers from the People's University of Michigan (and other left wing schools) on a one way ticket with them.

It does strike me as odd that the attempted suicides, the prison riot, and the release of the UN report all happened the same day. The inmates and the UN couldn't be coordinating their actions, could they? Hmmmm.....
