L.R. has a song called "Just For You" that came out not too long ago and it was great.

I met Richie and actually drove his new Mercedes in 1978, when he was still with the Commodores.
Very nice guy. Open, friendly, always had time for everybody.

" "I love Lionel Richie," they say"
Well so do I, from when he was with the Commodores.
That group was a big part of me growing up.
I am not surprised the Iraqis like the guy. One of my best all time singers.

Goes to show the resulting psychological effects of having to endure the Saddam regime for so long.

Just checked Amazon. One tune on the Best of Lionel Richie album is Jesus is Love. I'd love to hear that blaring from the minarets of Baghdad 24/7.

I bought LR music video with Dancing on the Ceiling at WalMart. My kids, then 12, loved it. Though my now jaded 13 year old would never be caught watching it, I'm sure it shaped his ideas of real entertainment.

Grown Iraqi men get misty-eyed by the mere mention of his name. "I love Lionel Richie," they say. Iraqis who do not understand a word of English can sing an entire Lionel Richie song. More proof that the press is only reporting bad news out of Iraq. :)

Ritchie has been huge in that part of the World for the last 25 years. Even the old Commodores stuff gets big play. I have no idea why.
But I would think even the most ingorant goat-herder would be repulsed by Dancing on the Ceiling...

Thank goodness none of the Iraqis that hang around where I live seem to have discovered LR. I can't stand that syrupy schlock.
They do seem to have an affinity for bad 70s disco, however. I've heard songs over here recently that I hadn't heard since I was a kid.

So what have I heard? That's easy: Lionel Richie. Grown Iraqi men get misty-eyed by the mere mention of his name. "I love Lionel Richie," they say. Iraqis who do not understand a word of English can sing an entire Lionel Richie song. There goes the MSM again: Nothing but bad news from Iraq ...
To: FreeManWhoCan
Anyone remember that news story where the Iraqi family came out and sang "Hotel California" as the tanks rolled across the desert? Bizarre!
