The boss of North Jersey would no doubt have a different view on how to prosecute the war in Iraq. So too, it turns out, does the man who plays him on The Sopranos.
Speaking Monday night from the National Museum of American History for the Washington premiere of the HBO documentary Baghdad ER, James Gandolfini said President Bush should reinstate the draft, send 500,000 troops and finish it.
Id go, he told a Hill source. Im too old and fat, but Id drive a truck.
The American people havent had to sacrifice anything, he added.
The often-gory film depicts the doctors of the 86th Combat Support Hospital treating real-life emergency trauma cases, such as soldiers who have been injured by bullets and bombs.
Gandolfini said the films principals are having some problems with the way the film is being perceived.
As The New York Times reported, Secretary of the Army Francis Harvey declined to attend the screening. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Schoomaker and Lt. Gen. Kevin C. Kiley, the surgeon general of the Army, also backed out.
But Paul Boyce, public-affairs specialist with the Army, said there were 36 soldiers at Mondays event, and screenings are planned at 22 Army posts throughout the country. He said much of the top military brass saw it weeks ago.
Given the graphic nature of the film, he said, were very careful to advise viewer discretion for soldiers returning and family members.
We dont think this will cause any additional situations for the people seeing it, but the U.S. Army has always been very aware and professional on issues like post-traumatic stress disorder.
Ironically, one of the most dangerous jobs in the military right now. Have at it, Mr. Gandolfini, I'll stick with the Infantry. It's safer here!
Why are they showing this at Army posts only?
Its an HBO movie - If you have HBO you can see it. I guess the army posts don't have HBO and they are doing a special screening for them.
Nah, he'd just send Silvio instead - and then tell Paulie to keep an eye on him.
Of course, the American People are sacrificing for their country. For him to have the right to be a moron.
Love your tagline! Beautiful.
Just as long as Vinnie Spatafore doesn't go! ...it would destroy "Don't Ask, Don't Tell!"
Am so sick of seeing our guys and gals exploited by the left.
Aside from our brave soldiers and their families, he's right.
Even that wouldn't end it. Not as long as you have Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East funnelling in jihadis. But it's refreshing to hear somebody in Hollywood arguing for something other than immediate withdrawal.
It was that very first paragraph that irked me.
Amen to that!
Agreed! I don't agree with his strategy, but it is nice for someone from Hollywood to have a goal of actually winning. The vast majority of Hollywood would be thrilled if they could take just a bit of selfish credit for playing some small part in causing us to lose!
I think he is right about the sacrifice part. It sad but true that more than half the country does not understand that we are in a real war.
Not that they don't need your help driving tracks, Mr. Gandolfini, but you'd be doing our guys a MUCH bigger service if you'd make a movie or two defending their honor and promoting their heroism. You are an actor, sir. Doing that in service to your country would be of far greater value to our guys in uniform!
So criticize the libs don't suggest the President hasn't sent enough troops, etc. etc.
Mr. G has been active in the anti-RKBA campaigns.
