"Some say that in crafting a solution to the immigration problem we must effectively seal our borders before we can deal with the "illegals" who are already here. Others say we might as well not bother trying to close the border unless we deal with the legality issues because without strong legal deterrents to future illegal immigration, our efforts to seal the border will be in vain."
"I believe we have to address both aspects of the problem, as they are manifestly interdependent."
You got it David. Exactly what a lot of us have been saying.

Guess what you see frequently in the LA area? A car with one giant Mexican flag on its top, along side of one or more smaller USA flags. The American flags are the fig leaves. True sentiment is coming out of the closet!

We have somehow allowed the enemies of our Republic to redefine the argument as being about immigration. It is not. We currently have a "guest worker" program. One friend of mine has had his green card (oddly enough it is not green) for nearly 12 years. I've got several others from various countries that have had theirs for several years each. This has nothing at all to do with immigration. It is entirely about stopping the colonization of our country by another by illegally sending their citizens into our homeland to occupy it and to send our nations riches back home.
Cordially,
GE

You've got right David. I am a "latino/US citizen" and I am not a racist... The U.S. is my first priority.

YES!
And when we inaugurate Pres H Clinton, (barf) I put the blame squarely on those Republican senators who can't see past their 'career' positions.
I will not vote again for Dewine or Voinovich.

Why just the Senators?
Did you know that while the press and talking heads today were thoroughly wrapped up over the immigration issue, the House voted to kill any chance of drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico?

By the way.
David Limbaugh is a DU plant, sent here to divide us.
Never fall prey to this Marxist Propaganda! You will only be electing Hillary in '08 by buying into this.....

What is taking place in the Senate is an absolute fiasco.
John McCainiac accused Senator Jeff Sessions of trying to undermine the so called compromise between him and Murdering Ted Kennedy.

Exactly. This will not be solved until our politicians enforce the law.
What is it about "illegal" that they don't understand? What is it about their oaths of office, to uphold the law, that they don't understand?
Apparently oaths of office ceased to have any meaning about the time that 100 senators violated their oaths during the Clinton impeachment trial. It's time to hold them to it once more.

And what about the House?
To: OKIEDOC
BILL FRIST, SENATE MINORITY LEADER.
Republicans are already the minority party in the Senate.
I know, (allegedly) there is a GOP Senate majority.
It's not a majority, if it's not used for anything.
Democrats already HAVE THE SENATE.
It's disgusting. What a sellout. What weenies.

Some are more concerned about Muslims than Mexicans .... Perhaps we all ought to be ....

The overwhelming majority of people exercised about immigration are not remotely racist, prejudiced, bigoted or nativist. I'm PISSED about the immigration debacle. Had lunch with a Mexican buddy today. Another good friend is Chinese (one of the coolest, funniest guys I know). My daughter dates a Korean guy. I have an African-American god child. I'm not a racist by any means.
It just infuriates me that the politicians have allowed this to happen, because it's convenient for them, and because they're gutless. Then they talk down to us, and over our heads as if we're drooling idiots. About which I'm beginning to think they're right.

I know I am.
I'm really fasinated about how the House was able to stick it to us so badly today and no one even cares they're so wrapped up with the immigration issue.

Maybe if you read David's column and listened to what he is saying you'd understand why our attention is absorbed exclusively on this issue?
Even if Rector's projections about the inflow of new immigrants over the next 20 years are substantially overstated, there is no question that way too many immigrants will come in during that period. And there is no question that this nation, given the current state of its laws and its refusal to encourage assimilation and promote a national identity, simply cannot absorb them. With all due respect to the casual elite, we are talking about nothing less than the destruction of America as we know it. This will come about not so much by "foreigners," but through our own complicity in devaluing the rule of law by neglecting immigration enforcement and the disgraceful abandonment of our national identity. This will prevent us from promoting the English language, our own sovereignty, our unique constitutional system and our traditional values.

The overwhelming majority of people exercised about immigration are not remotely racist, prejudiced, bigoted or nativist. They are, however, unapologetic patriots, believers in the American ideal, the American identity and the American culture. They are not slaves to an exclusively capitalistic perspective, realizing that economic considerations -- pro and con -- are only one part of the equation. Some people just know how to say things that need to be said.
