So, are you pro gay marriage?

Maybe his conservative side will win out. Even if it doesn't, he's one of the few New England Repubs who aren't RINOs.

Hey Dan, in sicko California, would you explain to me what anything on this thread so far , except you post, has to do with the Natalee Holloway case. You lost me on this one.

Just having fun with hijacked threads on this "sicko" FreeRepublic forum founded by "sicko" Jim Robinson in "sicko" California, home of "sicko" Ronald Reagan.

How are things in Hawaii the state that got a seven-year head start on the gay marriage movement and was the driving factor behind the Federal Defense of Marriage Act? Congratulations on your entire state delivering nearly 200,000 votes for President Bush in 2004, that's almost as many Republicans as we came up with in Sacramento County.

It won't even get close to passing.

Well, a look at the states that already have or are debating amendments declaring marriage sacrosanct between a man and a women suggests that we the people still have a say in the matter.

Some of the above are gullible, like recovering_democrat, but I on the other hand am much more in line with the Constitution Party and I don't mind bolting. I dare them to try that...a vote for third party is a "vote for a democrat" nonsense with me...apparently a vote for a republican is a vote for big spending and bigger government...democrats with a 'R' beside their name.

I really doubt that gay marriage and other social conservative issues are going to be a factor in this election cycle. If anything, I think it'll be seen as an attempt to distract the public from other more pressing issues, and may backfire. You already see a few posts alluding to that on FR threads like this one.

I admit that Hawaii is pretty bad but doesn't hold a candle to the big C. I am a native of Calif. but choose not to live in rain and taxes anymore. Sunshine and Mai Tais are so much easier on the mind. BTW, republicans are leaving Calif. for Hawaii by the droves. We have a Rep. Governor and my county, Maui, has a great Rep. Mayor. Things are changing here and we are not on the verge of bankruptcy and big business leaving the state like y'all.

Look a bit deeper and you'll see your points aren't fully accurate. They contain a nugget of truth but a lot of rhetoric.

At any rate, the bottom line is this: someone who sees politics as "the art of the possible" and doesn't want to make the good the enemy of the perfect, and who sees the glass as half full not half empty, that person is pleased with Bush's tenure overall. ( Enough metaphors for ya? :-D )

He hasn't been perfect. He is light years ahead of a possible President Al Gore or John Kerry.

I think Hastert and Frist--as tough as it is watching them waver sometimes--are much much much better than a Speaker Pelosi or Majority Leader Reid.

Tell me any time in American political history when conservatives voting third party has elected a more conservative federal government. You can't. Because it doesn't. It elects liberals.

Republican Teddy Roosevelt tried it in 1912, and he helped defeat his fellow Republican Taft and elect Democrat Wilson...and Ross Perot that clown tried it in '92 and '96. We got eight years of Clinton. Did you enjoy Clinton? I didn't.

The fact of the matter is: when conservatives leave the Republican party, Democrats are elected.

Feel free to flame away. I'm not deluded, I'm realistic: making the Republican party more conservative works by changing it from within, like Ronald Reagan did--not leaving it like a Pat Buchanan.

The point is that it will make the Senators go on the record as favoring gay marriage or not. How they vote may affect some peoples' vote in November. I am glad the Reps are finally doing something to get people to think about just how radical DemocRATs and some RINOs really are.

"If you want to leave, good riddance," The Senate Judiciary Chairman, Republican Arlen Specter, told Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Russell Feingold, who refused to participate because, he said, the meeting was not sufficiently open to the public.

It's always fun to see Arlene have a hissy, but, honestly, I'm starting to think the Senate is just a waste of space.

Senate panel OKs gay-marriage ban

The propaganda premising the headline tells much. Something that is not possible, does not exist, and has never existed can not be banned.

More apropos:

Senate panel OKs activist social engineering judge ban

In essence, the most basic tenet of law, PRECEDENCE comprised of conventional wisdom, tradition, common law, and enacted law is simply being specifically codified for the "meaning of is" crowd to prevent the power of the people from being usurped by activist leftist judges.

The Amendment when enacted will change NOTHING -all it will do is reestablish a reality observed for thousands of years and as such kick to the curb one of the leftists delusional efforts -this, in addition to unclogging the courts from homosexual agenda pipe dream cases and putting to death and completely burying post haste the Frankenstein fabrication of homosexual marriage given life by leftists and resuscitated every so often by rogue courts. Finally, the Amendment when enacted will further inhibit the ACLU and every other organization attempting to legislate delusion by lawsuit...

Maybe more apropos:

Senate panel OKs Nip it in the Bud Amendment

I've read about a few, but not millions swarming all over the WH. I've driven by the WH when one could basically just drive up to the gate. Now you can't. There are all sorts of barricades. Perhaps it's long overdue to apply some of the same changes to the southern and eventually the northern borders.

P.S. Looks like you took the bait on continuing to hijack the thread. ;-)

A little tidbit to appease the conservatives while they go ahead and vote to give our Social Security fund to 20 million illegal immigrants.

Yep. The senate has been absolutely shameful on this critically imortant national issue.

So the concensus is that it won't make it out of the Senate.

So what was the purpose of putting it through the committee?

Just to appease the base? Obviously they think we're stupid.
