...Getting into France just got harder

Sarkozy's reform bill will "stiffen the rules for immigrants in France, establish a sort of quota system and let authorities cherry-pick who gets in - such as doctors, computer whizzes or sports stars." (Independent Online, South Africa) "The bill, which also makes it difficult for immigrants already in France to have their families join them, is expected to go to the [French] Senate for final approval in June." (BBC)

Sarkozy himself is the son of a Hungarian immigrant. Promoting his reform proposal, Sarkozy had earlier said that "We can't keep welcoming to France everyone who wants to come and to whom we can offer neither housing nor employment." (Le Figaro)

A solid point. At lease our illegals aren't scheming day and night to blow up women and children. And at least our illegals aren't aiming to impose sharia law on us.

It could be the next step, though. Or more likely (considering the numerous hammer-and-sickle flags and posters of Che Guevara at those disgusting protests), packing us gringos on cattle cars bound for the "re-education" camps.

"I didn't say I liked them."

Ok. Just wanted to point out that not all of our illegals are "decent hardworking people" as someone famous would have us believe.

Germans were constantly outnumbered. That's a reason for their eventual defeat.

Thank God. Satan is powerful... not invincible.

They won't enforce the new "tough immigrant" laws.

IMO that depends on whether or not Sarko is elected in 2007.

Many of the French Muslims that were rioting in the streets aren't illegal. They are second-generation Frenchmen from the former French colonies. Their parents immigrated to France at a time when citizens of the former French colonies were allowed into France without question. You can't even get a definitive headcount of the number of French Muslims, since it is against French law to differentiate between Frenchmen for census purposes.

Some of the current illegal French immigration is actually Chinese. They're taking the jobs second generation French Muslims supposedly don't want to do (or more likely, can't do, given France's inflexible hiring and firing laws).

Why do the French plant so many trees? So the Germans can march in the shade.

Why do French Naval vessels all have glass bottoms?

So they can look down at the last French fleet.

More FREE thought less DUMB ranting please.

On thread after thread, I see people complaining about how repetitive and uninteresting your own rant is. People who obviously take the time to construct their own posts and contribute some original thought end up getting slimed by you with your little drive-by posting that appears to be cut and pasted from some little text file you keep around. You only alter minimal words each time and appear to change some of the wording every few days.

It's like a scripted bot program like you see on IRC sometimes.

Article 33. Foreigners are those who do not possess the qualifications set forth in Article 30. They are entitled to the guarantees granted by Chapter I, Title I, of the present Constitution; but the Federal Executive shall have the exclusive power to compel any foreigner whose remaining he may deem inexpedient to abandon the national territory immediately and without the necessity of previous legal action. Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country.

We currently have laws on the books that "prevent" illegal immigration. We do not enforce them. If the above was passed into law tomorrow, and ANSWER sponsored another mass rally the following day, do you really think anyone would get arrested?

It is all about political will. If President Bush really wanted the borders sealed to only allow legal immigrants, he could make it happen, and quickly. The fact that it is not happening quickly means either he does not want it to happen or he is not willing to put enough chips in the pot to make it happen.

Just being on the books apparently does not compel leaders to enforce the law. The immigration problem has shown that in some cases Mayors, Governors and Presidents can ignore the ones they find politically inexpedient. It is disgusting, but that is the way it is.

This one is getting OLD and tiresome.

I couldn't agree more if I tried MNJohnnie.

It's so old and tiresome even a mega dose of Botox

would help.

From what I've read and been told about Vietnam and the

Hippie protests, the atmosphere here at FR lately must have

been what it was like, and once again the ones being hurt

the most are our fighting troops who just get on with the

jobs they've been given to do and never complain.

Thanks for this info,(if it is true) I wasn't aware of this, HOWEVER, the Euro news is filled with illegal immigration topics on a daily basis. I was thinking about this yesterday at work. I was working a construction job in California operating heavy equipment, As often happens in my job, I was thrown into the middle of a stressful position between an Islamic immigrant(saudi) inspector who was totaly mad and unreasonable, and a Mexican immigrant labor foreman. The mexican/latinos are generally much easier to reason with, in my experience.

I was thinking how thankful we should be that (at least) we have a latino immigrant problem and not a muslim immigrant problem like France is dealing with.

........if that is any consolation to fill our glasses half full with these days

My wife comes from a family that has deep roots in northern Italy. Her response to the immigration debate in Europe: expect a return to fascism. Her dad fought for Mussolini, so she should know.

Fascism or worse. People do things where they feel they're backs are against the wall and their survival is at stake

In the 1920's and '30's, the German middle-class was increasingly scared. There were lots of ethnic German farmers in Russia (the Czar had invited them in to impart better farming skills to the Russians). They were hearing about the massacres of the Kulacks (prosperous farmers). They had seen an attempted Communist coup in 1919 in Germany (The Spartacist Uprising ,led by Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht)

Meanwhile in Hungary Bela Kun accomplished a bloody Communist revolution in 1919

The middle class thus began to get very frightened. The disproportionate number of Jews among the communists created the impression that Germany's Jews represented a risk of Communist subversion, which Hitler capitalized on in his march to power
