HBO Reality And Democracy Now! Gloating
Bob Parks: Black & Right ^ | 5/18/06 | Bob Parks

Posted on 05/18/2006 5:57:52 AM PDT by bocopar

In the performance of my daily work duties, I was watching some of Wednesday’s edition of Democracy Now! Now while this is one of my more painful duties, I often find myself stopping and watching out of sheer disgust and this was another of those instances.

This Sunday night, HBO will be premiering the documentary "Baghdad ER" and DN hostess Amy Goodman’s demeanor during her interviews with the filmmakers and an Army doctor showed her contempt for our sons and daughters who were passing through the Baghdad hospital.

And yet people try to claim that the views of the far left on Pacifica Radio (which airs Osama Bin Goodman) don't represent the views of Democrats.

Time-Life-Warner-Turner-HBO seem to feel she is an acceptable mainstream host.

For those who want to hear The Radical Sixties still being broadcast, here's
a link to Democracy Now's Radio Show home in Los Angeles: Pacifica Radio KPFK:

Must listening as it often comes off as almost a parody of the radical mentality
of the 1960s...only these cats are still living in that time-warp.

I never said the program shouldn't be aired. Maybe after the war when troop morale wouldn't be an issue.

Also, do any of us remember a "Mogadishu ER" or a "Haiti ER" or a "Bosnia ER" show being produced when a Democrat president initiated war...?

This Sunday night, HBO will be premiering the documentary "Baghdad ER" . . .

There's a loon loose in DOD.  What did they think would happen when they authorized this?

So you never saw any blood and guts from those places? I certainly remember seeing them.

"We should never be afraid of the truth."

Agreed. As somebody smarter said, truth (or the naked light of day)
is the best disinfectant. Nobody should sugar-coat the toll on body
and soul that are the natural by-product of fighting a war.

But just speaking for myself alone...
At the same time, it's good to know identify the bad actors that would
want to make money off same suffering, as well as their agenda.
I'm not saying some good-hearted pacifists wouldn't be saying about
what Goodman and her fellow-travelers are saying. But Goodman's end-goal
is not just ending war and suffering. It's making a pretty penny while catering
to some Socialistic nattering nabobs of negativism.
Goodman may not be selling shoddy goods to the US military in a time of war...
but she's still a war profiteer.

We should never be afraid of the truth.

So you never saw any blood and guts from those places? I certainly remember seeing them.

Via live television, I watched the second aircraft slam into the Twin Towers.  I watched the towers fall.  I watched everything tht followed.

Later, a documentary filmaker released Fahrenheit 9/11.  Was that truth?

Of course, balance is always nice, though not expected from people like this. But we should not want war sugar-coated. Going to war is never easy and I pray Iraq will eventually have a stable government.

"There's a loon loose in DOD. What did they think would happen when
they authorized this?"

I suspect that some poor Public Information Officer didn't do enough
"due diligence" on Amy Goodman/Democracy Now!/Pacifica Radio prior
to the project.

BUT, maybe at some point they decided "Amy Goodman needs her primetime shot.
As soon as FOX News gets ahold of this, she'll be not just a well-known loon
on a fringe network. She'll be exposed nation/world-wide as a fringe nutburger."

I suspect that Goodman's following will be cheering the show...but they
were applauding her before this.
But when Joe and Josephine Six-Pack see it, they'll probably just be
awed by the competency of the doctors and hospital staff and bravery of
the wounded soldiers/Marines.
Goodman could come off very badly by comparison.

Stay tuned. This could be interesting.

I didn't see Farenheit 9/11 so I don't know if it was truth or not.

I'm with you.
Having listened some to Ms. Goodman on Pacifica Radio during my time
in Los Angeles...the rest of the country needs to get exposed to her as well.

As I often say, the best part of The First Amendment is its' "give 'em
enough rope and the fringe will hang themselves in public" function.

But you're saying we shouldn't be afraid of the truth shown in Baghdad ER, which none of us has seen either and thereby cannot know what truth value it has?

Or, have I misunderstood you somehow?

Was Baghdad ER filmed in Baghdad military hospitals? Did they film real soldiers and doctors or was it staged?

Was it scripted by Military Public Affairs Officers?  Was it filmed by Armed Forces Information services?  Was it reviewed for authenticity by the U.S. Army Center for Military History?  Was it edited by by military editors?

Michael Moore judiciously used slices from real life to produce his documentary, which you have not seen and do not know the truth of because you did not see it.  Baghdad ER uses slices from real life, a documentary you seem to be defending as truth, also without having seen it.

Or, have I misunderstood you somehow?

I am not sure if you have misunderstood me because I don't know what you "understood" to begin with.

Was it scripted by Military Public Affairs Officers? No. As anything like this donre by a private company or movie studie, it was done in coorperation with and the approval of DoD.

Was it filmed by Armed Forces Information services? Nope. I suspect it was HBO's filmcrew.

Was it reviewed for authenticity by the U.S. Army Center for Military History? Authenticity? It's live footage. How authentic do you want?

Was it edited by by military editors? It is an HBO production not a DOD/AFTRS/YADA/YADA/YADA production
