....... a stunning 83-16 in favor of a reinforced fence along the Mexico border yesterday....showed that lawmakers are feeling get-tough winds blowing from the grass roots.
Even 2008 presidential prospects like Sens. Clinton and Kerry voted for the 370-mile fence, and several Democrats who first voted no switched nervously to yes.
"Voters are very clear that they want the situation at the border addressed first," said independent pollster Scott Rasmussen, who's found huge enforcement-first majorities in 33 states he polled. "The real debate isn't about what to do with the illegal aliens who are already here," Rasmussen said. "It's about what to do to keep more from coming here."
.....the Republican base is livid as Bush snuggles up to liberal Ted Kennedy - a big advocate of legalizing illegal aliens....."When you get into bed with Ted Kennedy, you get more than a good night's sleep," fumed a Florida lawmaker.............

Still, Teddy Kennedy doesn't have to fear the wrath of his sister in law at family get togethers.
"W" does.
The Republicans still have a few chances to step back from the chasm.
The "comprehensive package" is not acceptable.
....."When you get into bed with Ted Kennedy, you get more than a good night's sleep,"
Hmm.....Good night sleep? Sound like a prescription for a nightmare (or worse) to me.
There's a thought just guaranteed to make your skin crawl.
Remember "No Child Left Behind" Mr. President? Well you're good buddy Teddy has been ever so grateful for your signing that one hasn't he. I'm sure he'll be just as gracious if you sign anything remotely resembling that monstrosity in the Senate.

This is encouraging news.
Keep the pressure up gang.
Write or FAX your Senator and Representative again today and remind them who they work for!
Livid?
How about red as a lobster in a pot, and for the same reasons.
Good...Time to escalate!
... you end up in the drink.
... they don't find you for 8 hours.
... his lawyers are already on top of the problem.
... you're gonna be crushed.
Others?
370 miles doesn't sound like much, but we now have the proverbial camel's nose in under the tent. Every year, it becomes a mere blip on the budgetary radar screen to buy about 75 miles more. By 2025, the border is totally walled off.
Strategically place the wall sections that you buy, and the border gets effectively walled off a whole lot sooner. Put the first fences up where high-speed transport can get across the border. Then fence off the places where the physical environment can actually help keep migrations afoot from starving or dehydrating.
I really don't think a lot of conservatives are realizing how much they won when this passed and the Sessions Amendment passed.
Who voted against it?
Americans want their borders secured, their national security protected......and most Americans want the invaders out of our country and off our welfare rolls.
It's coming as a huge surprise to the insular lawmakers in Washington, that this is a consensus issue that cuts across all sectors of the political spectrum.
Since the House districts are designed to continue incumbency and Party structure is designed to minimize primary opposition for incumbents, how are most of these folks under any pressure?
Arrrghh, Ewuuuu, yech!!! We did NOT need that...
Not at all...
Ever...
When you get into bed with Ted Kennedy, a good night's sleep is the last thing you will get. There, fixed it.
Just saw Steven Camarota discuss what the '86 law said, "Amnesty for 3 million already hear, immediately begin protecting borders, severely punish businesses who hire illegals and TA DA (Drum roll please) Never again grant amnesty to any more illegals.
...wear SCUBA gear.
I think W's in-laws are Cuban not Mexican
