A simple observation I don't think can be denied:

Chris Matthews is so against this war he LOVES hearing this kind of stuff. I don't mean in a journalistic way one "loves" a "good story"--he acutally seems to find some comfort that this war has (in his view) turned into barabrism.

A truly strange person. He seems unhinged and is living in his own version of the reality of what's going on over there.

Write a letter to the editor supporting your troops and publicly chastising Murtha and calling for his resignation.

This is one of the most important things you've mentioned.

Pick up your local newspaper and chances are the opinion section is filled with nasty letters from liberals bashing Bush, Cheney, the local Republican Congressman, etc etc. My hometown paper routinely runs about 95% liberal in the opinion section - it's clear the liberals know and understand the importance of publicity, while Conservatives seem content to sit back, observe, shake their head in disagreement then move on to the next thing.

Write those letters, people! Let the newspapers know we're out there and we will not be silent!
