"They are going to get a big fence. Hell! I want a fence to. I think everyone does, but I doubt that will placate the most hardliners who seemed to have whipped themselves into a frenzy"
No, they're not.
They're going to get physical fencing here and there, and "virtual fencing" (which means "No fence") in other places. Which means that the immigration flood will MOVE, but it won't stop.
It also means that the leadership won't give people what they want, but is trying to tell people what they don't want is what they want, and will work. It isn't, and it won't.
The Republican Party needs to look the country in the eye and say "We hear you!", and say they're building a physical fence, from sea-to-sea, and then start construction. It won't nearly be finished by election time, but the BorderBots will have something to vote to protect.
As it is now, they've got nothing and don't accept what's been offered. They aren't going to vote for the GOP and we all lose.
Give them their fence, or at any rate SAY you are and build SOME of it, and don't be prissy about "virtual" - build a damned wall - it's cheaper anyway, and it's what THEY want. Give the constituency what it says it wants and be done with it. If you're going to alienate them, do it five years from now when you never get around to finishing it. Don't do it NOW, during an election year!
