She didn't simply tell the "party". She told everyone. She set the record straight in both books she wrote and public speeches. There was nothing subtle about it. The people who voted for her knew the facts prior to electing her.

Hey, I guess you're the expert. I just can't find any evidence that the public at large knew the full extent of the lies she told. Everything I've read suggests that she admitted some lies to everyone, and admitted the rest of the lies only to some. I would happily follow any link that indicates otherwise.
One of the articles mentions that she was reported to have lived through five civil wars in Somalia (not true, since she was in Kenya during that time) and suffered a forced marriage (also apparently not true). What I'm reading on some foreign message boards is that people voted for her partly because they believed she bettered herself after surviving the wars in Somalia and a forced marriage. That tends to cast aspersions on her "mandate" by the people. But like I say, I'm willing to be educated.
