The U.S. Senate may be much more receptive to President Bush's "guest worker" program for illegal immigrants, but a member of the president's own party is warning that Congress is "blissfully ignorant" about the impact of such a program.
Critics of the president's guest worker program, which is included in Senate immigration reform legislation, but not in the House version, call it amnesty for the estimated 10 to 12 million people who broke the law when they crossed the U.S. border.
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) claims that the program, sponsored in the Senate by fellow Republicans Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Mel Martinez of Florida, would inflate the U.S. population by 20 to 60 percent over the next 20 years, depending on whether the caps on certain visas were kept in check over that time frame.

Yes, they are debating caps on numbers right now on C-Span.
Even Diane Feinstein is worried about these yearly automatic increases.
The Senate is full of ignorant people who don't give a damn about AMERICAN workers and standards of living.
All you pro-immigrant people better take a close look at what the current bill is proposing. It is disasterous for the future of America.
They are not debating about the 12 million that are here..that's a done deal.
They are now talking about potentially legally letting in hundreds of millions of immigrants over the next 10 to 15 years!!!!
Heck, americans are watching american idol. don't upset them.
Jeff old buddy, you're pissing in the wind. The Democrats in the Senate and the Democrat in the White House have already decided to throw open the borders. Get used to it.
Sessions is too good for this Senate. he actually does the research and tries to spare this country a nightmare.
And he's too good for the fools that place more importance on sparing the President from critisism, then staring what he has supported in the face and denouncing it here on FR.
Frankly I don't know how they look themselves in the mirror.
Yeah, I guess I shouldn't bother them.
What is currently contained in the Hagel-Martinez bill starts with a cap of 125,000 the first year, then if that fills up quickly they will automatically increase by up to 20% per year per year. Compounding the rate non-linearly.
Even some of the Democrats who support the presidents position are starting to get nervous about this.
196 million.
This is the same phony argument that was made in 1990 when they doubled legal immigration numbers. Give out more visas to cut down on the illegal kind and it still exploded. I don't know who this open border shill Benjamin Johnson thinks he's fooling but it's not anyone paying attention.
Originally the quota was 480,000 but was reduced to the 325,000 number in a Judiciary Committee compromise.
Yep. He's a keeper.
Are you watching this??
We are watching the doors swing wide open for reconquista a la mode.
Unbelievable!!!!
America's future is to be a Turd World nation.
Thanks to Bush, the GOP, and the Dems.
Traitors all.
No, ignorance can be corrected. The senators who, along with the president, are trying to give the country to illegal immigrants are either stupid or serving interests other than their constituents.
That's the legal immigrants.
There will be additional millions of illegals.
We're done.
They don't call it the elitist millionaires club for nothing. Many of the idiots supporting this garbage are in their seventies and most likely won't even be around when its full impact takes hold.
I'm afraid you're right.
That smarmy McCain was talking about how worker would be matched with employers. Job advertised for 2 weeks and if no American takers the the immigrant gets his green card.
I saw that in action in my last fortune 500 company.
Wanted: Engineer with PhD in radar cross section analysis. Bi-lingual, 50-60 hour work week, $28,000/ yr annual salary.
Guess how many American engineers applied for the job?
That's how they get around that. "guess this is a job an American won't do"
"The Senate is full of ignorant people who don't give a damn about AMERICAN workers and standards of living."
They're being paid not to. There's money to be made in wage depression. "Americans aren't entitled to the lifestyle they lived" is a mantra of the liberal globalists and certain business lobbies.
Here's a question Feinstein isn't asking. Why do we have to increase legal immigration at all? We take in a million per year legally. Why do we have to go beyond an amnesty?
