Yeah, same crowd who rants and raves that Henry Hyde is too libreal for them but Condi Rice is presidential material with her pro-abortion, open-borders, affirmative-action friendly platform.

Obviously their definition of "Conservative" is based on how telegenic and folksy someone sounds in a speech, rather than actual record on the issues.

That's why Chafee has to DIE in RI. Either he or the other guy will lose the election.

Club For Growth

The Club is very excited to back Laffey against Chafee in the primary. Salivating, in fact. The national GOP is not happy to see an uber-RINO targetted like this by the Club, the loyalists of the Reagan-Gingrich GOP.

The Club has tripled its membership since 2004. Lots of deep pockets in the membership.

Ya know George,

As long as it stays in-house, and doesn't put Dems in power that wouldn't have gotten there anyhow, I really don't care whether the GOP establishment is happy. I draw the line at any inter-party fratricide that enables Howard Brush Dean a greater say in how I live my life. Given that criterion as a guide, and given that the GOP is pretty much screwed in RI with either candidate, go Laffey!!

Status quo is the danger. Hard to grasp how a Dim would be worse than Chafee. If there's a RINO to defeat, it's him. In a two-way race, Laffey looks good. If Chafee goes independent, it's a three-way race and the two Dims in their primary are both pretty flawed.

We've got a great opportunity to replace a Democrat-clone, Chafee, with someone a lot better. If we lose, we only get the same thing from a real Dim. And it won't change control of the Senate either way unless the GOP Senate is in very very serious trouble for fall elections. Which I don't believe.
