Well, it's about time. For the first time in a long time, President Bush's advisors got it right and got him out quickly and forcefully on an issue that has taken center stage of late, and that is the problem of illegal immigration.
Many Americans were upset at the immigrant marches, and rightfully so. The rabble-rousing efforts of the radical Hispanic leaders and their followers incited fear in many of us, with their speeches about taking back the country and waving those Mexican flags. It was not a comforting sight, and many of the more conservative Hispanics were just as horrified as many Caucasians are at the sight of marching skinheads. May not be the same cause, but threatening behavior in any form has the same effect on it's target.
Let's take comfort from the fact that the carping of the dissidents, so loudly and clearly, led this country and this President to unite and finally, FINALLY, take true action in the battle for the border. Nothing brings a family together better than a threat from outside, and we proved true to form. We may not all agree on the answer to the problem... but we DEFINITELY agree there's a problem to be solved.

The most important thing to me was sending the guard and setting up fences be they physical or electronic. The electronic fences had better be enforced though, If an alarm goes off, I want someone to do something about it and go stop them, not just log it or sleep through it.
Drones are another great solution, as long as there is coordinated action on the ground.
Too many people are just so rabidly angry over this that they cannot accept certain realities. This mess was allowed to go on for far too long and fixing it is not a simple issue.

If they allow the illegals citizenship--the illegal/legals will do what they did after 1986: vote democratic and tip the country to a democratic majority as they have done in california and that because after 1993 in California many mexicans began voting in california to preserve gov bennies--for which the dems excel. There won't be social security benefit for Americans of retirement age from the illegals/legals because they will suck up what ever they put into the economy--as they are now. They won't yield a net gain. ie they won't pay for anyone's social security.
Everyone but everyone who has ever been to any government building that dispenses anything from health care to drivers lisences can't help but notice that the place is swamped with foreigners. Basically the welfare state system set up in the 1960's is being totally gamed by foreigners.
If the president gets his way he will demoralize the republicans bringing on the effects of the 1992 & 1996 elections. There may not even be a third party but when W builds in a reversal of the fortunes of the war of 1848--it creates a kind of passivity in people when they see their leaders commit them to the status of world historical losers.
If Bush decides to put up a wall and expel the illegals then there is a chance to preserve Republican majorities. It would be helpful to promise that the USA will kill the cost of water desalination and transport so as to make it economically possible to turn the deserts 1000 miles from any desert seacoast -- green. (this would increase the habitable size of the USA by a third and double the habitable size of Mexico.)This work is already ongoing and will be accomplished in five years or so--or in about the same time frame that GM promises to have a cost effective fuel cell car. For GM as it is for the GOP its do or die time.
The chief difference between the pubbies current predicament and flight 93 is that they are currently in the cockpit. (if you presume that bush is a republican or at least more of a republican than a bilderburger.)
The point here is that if these guys cannot act like loyal americans at least they can act like republicans. ie people who have a stake in the continuity of the republican party.
Since they are not doing this the republicans in the white house and senate all need to be smacked on both sides of the face and kicked in the but.

The MSM, Kennedy, Durbin, Reid and the rest of that ilk are all tripping over themselves to say positive things about the speech and the amnesty that isn't amnesty.

Now after all this time Bush finally makes a speech after resisting any attempts to enforce the existing laws for 5.5 years and you guys think he is wonderful for doing so? I think it sucks and I think he had better put up a REAL wall or fence and increase the border patrol and stop catch and release. Also, we need to fine and jail employers of ILLeGALS.
Praise him if you want but he was slow getting off the mark and would still be doing nothing if the base hadn't pushed him, and he isn't doing enough. To little, to late says it all.

Secure the border, and the problem becomes very solvable. Fail to secure the border, and nothing anyone does will work.
Putting 6000 guardsmen on the border would do it; we've already seen how a couple hundred volunteers were able to secure long stretches of border simply by their presence. By simply doing what the volunteers did, which we already know will work, the border would be closed up tight as a drum.
The catch is, that isn't what the guard is going to do. They aren't going to patrol anything, they aren't going to guard anything. They are going to sit back at the office and do, what I'm not clear.
Which means, I can't help it, it looks a lot like an attempt to show an effort at the border, without actually closing it.
Furthermore, he tied sending the guard to a comprehensive solution, which makes me wonder if sending the guard has to wait for his "comprehensive" legislation. I'll be watching to see how this plays out, but it will become clear quickly if this is action or merely the appearance of action.
Close the border, and they can take all the time they need in congress to hatch their wonder-plan. But if they can't even close the border, I won't be inclined to believe anything they come up with.
