No, he's not right... Bill Schneider of CNN declared "Bush just lost his base" two seconds after the speech ended, so it must be true.

Schneider says whatever will keep his ugly mug on television. He is a hack, a partisan, and wrong 90% of the time.

Bush lost his base on immigration sometime in April (perhaps a bit sooner). Anything under 30% means the base is lost. About two weeks ago Bush was between 24% and 26% on the borders issue. I suspect this was why he decided to come out with the speech tonight.
