A Day Of Thanks (Not Moaning & Whining)
The Strata-Sphere ^ | May 15, 2006 | AJ Strata

Posted on 05/15/2006 7:45:36 PM PDT by bobsunshine

Today conservatives and Americans across this nation, especially those who voted for George W Bush, should be thankful for what we have accomplished and for having George Bush as President. My tolerance for the whiners who don’t get all they want, or who say the pace of getting America to become more responsive to conservative ideas is too slow, is totally used up. Tonight, when George Bush speaks his is going to discuss how we can take SOME steps towards getting a handle on immigration and the security threats it represents.

I want to give thanks to W for taking the war to the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and for not shrinking from his course when the French and Germans bawked, when the UN whimpered, when the left wailed and when the right ran away.

I want to thank him for protecting all our families and neighbors since 9-11.

I want to thank him for reducing taxes and pulling this economy together since my family just about went under due to the economic hits from 9-11, and now I am working a dream job exploring the solar system.

I want to thank W for protecting the lives of some of the embryos who otherwise would have become a product to harvest for spare cells (to make spare parts).

I want to thank W for making the education system accountable and force it to produce statistics on its performance.

Thanks also for giving my 80+year old parents a prescription drug plan so they can live out their lives with dignity and in the best health preventive medicine can offer. I know that at their age to fix things once their broken is much harder than keeping them from breaking in the first place.

Thank you as well to the immigrants who come here and extend the American fabric and re-establish respect for the family and the work ethic. I still believe working without papers is aking to driving a car which is not properly registered. While not legal, it pales next to the people I deal with everyday in my 75 mile commute on the busy and dangerous DC Beltway. For perspective, I do not thank all the drivers chatting on the phone, reading, eating, doing their face who risk my LIFE with their casualness. I am less concerned about the immigrant workers coming to do top notch work on my house than the insane drivers who could kill me or my family. Let’s not even discuss how little thanks I have for drunk drivers (and drunk is only a few drinks away).

I want to thank LJSTrata for putting up with me for so long and keeping this site going through its first Blogoversart (5/18/06).

I owe a big thanks to Powerline this week for naming us Blog of the Week - which is an extreme honor we will cherish.

I want to thank my kids and family for being who they are.

I do not have any words of thanks to he those who leak national secrets to the media because they cannot address their issues through our established political processes. None. Anomous leaks are not a badge of honor.

I have no words of thanks to those who are so frustrated they have turned on Bush when he needs our support, and threaten to sit out elections. Why would I have any thanks for that kind of action? I am thankful we avoided a President Gore and President Kerry. Gore would have lost his mind after 9-11 (look at how he handled the 2000 election). And Kerry would have been so confused about what to do he would have signed legislation beforing vetoing it.

I am thankful for our new allies in Iraq, Afgahnistan, the UAE, Qatar and Pakistan. They are not perfect allies, but they are better than enemies. Just like Bush is 100 fold better than a manic Gore or a confused Kerry. I thank Bush for doing all he did, and doing it despite the naysayers and quitters, the moaners and whiners, and especially the serial surrenderers. Thanks George Bush. And no thanks goes to anyone who gives us nothing on immigration because they could not get all they wanted. I am tired of the zero sum game. It is a game for fools.

I hear so called conservatives touting Bill Clinton's immigration record....Next we will get statistics that claim Jimmy Carter was better on the economy than GWB :-) These people are so transparent it's almost unbelievable that they are not complete laughing stocks

I'm not touting Clinton's record. Clinton was a traitor. The statistics that I post come from the DHS's own reports. They compare the two most recent administrations because that is as far back as the stats actually go for the most part.

Republicans and conservatives had a reasonable expectation that President Bush was going to at least continue the enforcement efforts of the previous administration if not improve upon them. My own assumption was that a Republican President would do that, given that Republicans are not soft on crime like Democrats are supposed to be. I was absolutely shocked that the numbers showed not only a decline under the Bush administration when it comes to interior enforcement, but a HUGE decline. I then compiled the numbers along with some analysis I did so that others could be just as shocked. Too often we have posters here who say things like "Clinton did absolutely nothing", "Bush couldn't be as bad as Clinton", "President Bush has been doing a great job enforcing the law", etc. These are statements made in ignorance. The stats help educate posters to what has really happened. It causes them to then question this administration's interior enforcement policies and apply pressure on the administration to see some substantial improvements. There is nothing wrong with trying to ensure that our laws our enforced and that criminals are punished. There's also nothing wrong with educating people with the facts.

Post a link to your claim that Clinton did a better job of going after business owners who hired illegal aliens, as texasforever requested several times, or just admit you made it up

I really don't like it when people quote me out of context. The lede of my post was, If we give away our country to ILLEGALS, NONE of your about to be formerly impressive list matters, for the country will be gone.

That's the context. With or without it, you're not clever.

If you look at the profiles of those who shout "impeach him!", most of them (not all, but most) live close to the border. Usually SoCal., Texas, New Mexico, etc. They are the loudest, rudest, most vile on the threads.

Personally, I've never seen anyone call for President Bush's impeachment here.

That being said, the reason that you see so much passion from those who live in the border states on this issue is that they are the most angry about the problem. They sit right in the epicenter of the invasion. They've likely been hurt or seen family and friends hurt by this national problem. I, myself, have made a number of posts about the problems in my border area community that affect me directly.

I've been chased and threatened with death by human smugglers as they tried to run me off the road.

My daughter waits at a bus stop about 200 yards from a popular illegal alien lay up area and pick up location that has been the sight of high speed car chases.

My kids have been riding their bikes on that same street as a group of illegal aliens emerged from a field and started walking near them, scaring them.

A family friend was beaten and nearly strangled in the parking lot of my daughter's elementary school by illegal aliens stealing his car.

A friend of mine, a grandmother, has been chased and run off the road by human smugglers on the road 1/2 mile from my house.

Another friend had his father die on a gurney in the ER that was overcrowded with illegal aliens.

SE Arizona is down to only one trauma center that now has to be heavily subsidized with federal funds to keep it open because the rest were bankrupted by illegal aliens. If this one closes, the closest trauma center will be all the way up in Phoenix. This has lead to a number of deaths because people can't get trauma care as quickly.

All of the OB GYN centers except for one have closed for the same reason causing people in border communities to have to travel a much longer distance when they are in labor.

I have a friend who was a builder who was pushed out of the market by those who hired illegal aliens. He got a job as a cabinet maker and lost that too as he was replaced by illegal aliens. Out of a job, without health care coverage, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. They are now destitute.

A couple from my community was killed in a fiery crash just outside of the main gate of the Army post here as a truck full of illegal aliens crashed into a line of cars waiting at a stop light. It flipped upside down and became airborn, spilling illegal aliens along the way, and hit the cars at head level. A bunch of illegal aliens, one with an unborn child, were killed in that crash too. It was horrific. I know people who were there that day. It is a trauma that this community will not soon forget.

Our desert areas, hiking trails, campsites, etc. were once pristine in this beautiful rural desert and mountain area. Now they are clogged with illegal alien garbage, patrolled by those in the human trafficking business, and there is a constant stream of illegals pouring through them.

The sensitive military installation that this entire community relies upon for their existence (this is a military town that would go away if the base closed) has been threatened to be closed under BRAC. One reason is that the base can't be secured and that it sees an average of over 100 foreign nationals trespassing on that base per month. And those are just the ones that are apprehended and reported. Talk to an MP or security guard and they'll tell you that they're not reporting all of the apprehensions.

I have many friends who are Border Patrol agents. I hear the stories about them being shot at, huge rocks thrown at them, and of their fellow agents who have been injured or killed.

These are just a few examples off the top of my head to demonstrate how the problem directly affects people.

They say that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged. A correlary to that is that a border security advocate is anyone who has been mugged (or hurt in some other manner) by illegal aliens.

They apprehended 6 Million since 2001, how many were deported, I don't know, but if you think mass deportation is the answer, I really don't want to waste my time on you. It's kinda like arguing with someone who believes the answer to the Iran situation is to "Nuke them All"

I'm not confident that your number is correct, but you made the point based upon it. If they apprehended 6 million in one year, then why is it so hard to apprehend the other 12 million?

Another 11/04 sign up, there is something about these sign ups just after and just before the election

I keep hearing people condemning the 2004 signups and I've seen a number of them banned. Is it too hard to understand that there was a critical and contentious election in 2004 involving much information outside of the MSM (Swift Boat Vets, etc) that people were signing on to Free Republic to learn more about and participate in our political forum. Now, suddenly those same people are pariah here. I don't understand it.

DHS 2004 Yearbook of Immigration Statistics was used for all but one table. Given your hostility, I'm not going to do your homework for you. Google is easy to use. Find it yourself. Why the hostility and accusation? I didn't do a thing to you.

They apprehended 6 Million since 2001

You're right. I misread your post and thought you said that they had apprehended 6 million in 2001 alone. That's why I said that wasn't sure how correct that number was. Notice that I did not attack you on it and tried to use your number to make my point instead of correcting you.

But, I'll make the same point. If we've apprehended and deported 6 million in recent years, why is it impossible to apprehend and deport the other 12 million? Or even just 6 million?

Post a link

I've posted it in other threads to less hostile FReepers who truly wanted to learn for themselves. Look it up. Some of those that I posted the link to may not agree with me, but they did treat me appropriately. You, on the other had, displayed irrational hostility. I'm on a different computer right now and don't have the link. I'm not going to go out of my way to accomodate someone who is attacking me when they simply have to use Google.
