Bush's problem is that he is selling the slogan, "comprehensive reform", while ignoring rational, reasoned analysis of the ill consequences of that bill, because the idea itself "comprehensive reform" fits his good intentions.

You deserve rewards not for your good intentions, but for the reasoned and rational ways in which you chose to turn those intentions into actions, and only for the good, if any that results from those actions. You are not rewarded simply for feeling better (a very liberal thing).

The only thing "comprehensive" about what Bush, McPain, McKennedy et al are selling is how comprehenisvely they are fooling the public in the 400 amendments of the bill.

I read that report this morning. To say the least, in short review the Heritage study has some major problems and seem to be bordering on hysteria. However, I am awaiting some commentary on that study so I will withhold final judgment.

The big problems I saw were.
They assume or at least don't make clear the whole green card issue. There seems to be some logic that everyone that gets a green card is going to stay here till they are put 6 feet under. That is nonsense

The Study seems incredibly wrong or probably does not consider the demographics and birthrates of Latino' as well as Asians. It fact Latino birthrates(abroad and here thanks to evils of birth control) are plummeting and in fact are about the same as in the USA. Furthermore the median age in Mexico will be far older than here in not to the far distance future.

Also, for some reason, it expects this economy to go gangbusters over the next 50 years. No talk of recessions, or economic downturns in the Universe of the Heritage Foundation it seems. Needless to say if Economic activity goes down migration goes down.

I though the report was well done in what they are trying to achieve. It works off some basic assumptions that Americans have. We believe that we have the greatest Country in the World and that the whole world would flock here and become citizens if they could. In fact many do. However many of the folks mentioned in that article are just as happy to work and then go back home for extended periods of time. Why? Because its home

I am anxious to see this report analyzed more. Perhaps I am wrong in my objections to it. However, I suspect it will one of a hundred studies we will see that never will be seriously analyzed in confusion of all these groups unleashing them at the same time.
