Where in that speach did you hear Bush propose Amnesty for the 20 million illegals? Because it's funny, but my wife and I both watched it and didn't hear him propose amnesty. He made it clear that it wasn't fair for people who broke the law to get ahead of the line for citizenship over the good people who obey our laws and pay taxes and do what they're supposed to in waiting for citizenship. November elections won't be a disaster, unless conservatives quit voting for conservatives. Bush finally sounded like a conservative tonight. All the things he said are opposed by the democrats. And now the democrats will be vocal about opposing them and that will put them at odds with 70& or more of the American people, and 20% of that number are not conservatives, so how do you think the democrats will win in November when many of those who support real border security are not Republicans and many of those will not vote for democrats weak on border security.

Bush clearly said he would not support a bill that gives amnesty, but a worker program which is not amnesty, and also required that they learn English. That's not something democrats support either.

You're right...It looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck...But it's not a duck...So we can't call it a duck...It's already got a name...And it's name is shamnesty...

Sure, they will wait in line for citizenship, but they'll be waiting in the USA. Not back in their country of origin, but paying a fine and back taxes, assuming they're dumb enough to claim any significant back taxes. It's like a tax amnesty, where you don't get thrown in jail if you promise to pay your back taxes and penalties, and everyone calls it just that, amnesty. And just wait - when all is said and done, the number that will come out of the shadows will be a multiple of the 12 million figure people have thrown around. It happened in '86.

You need to engage your brain next time you listen to these politicians. They say one thing and do the other. Bush begins by saying how he's against amnesty and yet he proposes a plan which is amnesty by any other name. Look at this:

Some in this country argue that the solution is to deport every illegal immigrant and that any proposal short of this amounts to amnesty. I disagree. It is neither wise nor realistic to round up millions of people, many with deep roots in the United States, and send them across the border.
What do you call that? Isn't that amnesty?! As for not being able to deport all these people back... Mexico sent all of their people here! So it must be possible and his statement MUST be false since it is self-conflicting.
