look at it this way - we need a net inflow of immigrants into the US because of our declining birthrates and 30 years of abortions. that demographic fact is not in dispute. if we had an immigration bill that had all of the positive things many posters here want - border security, employer sanctions, denial of free health care - having to legalize some of the people already here as part of a compromise, wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
We will continue to work cooperatively to improve security on both sides of the border ... to confront common problems like drug trafficking and crime ... and to reduce illegal immigration.
He still intends to keep the gates open.
