The following takes place between 8pm and 9pm...

President Bush alienates everyone who voted for him. The "guest worker" program is coming. The National Guardsmen on the border will be prohibited from arresting any illegal aliens, which makes them little more than sugar-coating for a "path to citizenship".

I recently moved from the People's Republic of Kalifornia. Nothing compares to the chaos caused by the illegal occupation in southern Kal.

Then you ain't been around any of these spots. At least in So California you get big bucks for your homes, so I guess "illegals" haven't destroyed everything there.

And, just so the point isn't lost, the President's proposal may or may not be adequate, but he is trying to do something about the illegal influx -- unlike his predecessor, who mostly ignored this problem along with nearly every problem which crossed his desk.

Jenny,

The president's proposal is a smoke screen, designed to get the base to vote Republican in the next election, nothing more. He is doing exactly what his predecessor has done on this issue.

LOL!
I'm a never-served civilian (work in biological research).
But even though it had some nice moments, I call my time in Los Angeles
a "tour of duty". Just from the hassle of the ever-more-crowded urban
environment and the daily insanity of the local guvmint and the LAUSD ("LA Mummified").
As former radio-show host Ken Hamblin said that he'd done "a tour of duty"
while he was working/living in Detroit for some time, I hijacked the term
for my time in "the big city" of Los Angeles.

I got to admit, LA won't ever be Detroit. The weather will always be
nicer year-round. Even with El Nino!

It reminds me of the Japanese Imperial rescript for surrender when the Emperor wrote. "the war has gone not necessarily to Japan's advantage..." Whoa... understatement city!

Not exactly accurate. I'll see if I can find the post I read earlier.

Ahhh, you got me! LOL

You should know that many people who live here are trying to figure out a way to move, then when they do they try to move back. I guess you can't win.

If he does what he says, the country gets screwed anyway, so you are going to see IMO the mother of all revolts in this country over illegal aliens.

This is not good for the country.

I doubt those areas have been leading the housing bubble in recent years.

Those are pursuasive figures, but I think you missed the point of my post. As far as I know, President Clinton never addressed the issue directly, certainly not in a nationally-televised address whereas President Bush is taking it on, even if the proposal is not as tough as many on this board would like to see. It just occurred to me: when you get right down to it, those Clinton-era figures, er, figure. Here was the guy who always got all teary over "diversity" and his Administration made more deportations. Figures.

This is just my opinion, and I could be wrong, but it seems to me that Clinton deported more by accident, whereas President Bush's numbers are on purpose.

It just wasn't that big a deal during the Clinton Administration, at all. I imagine he just basically kept Border Patrol policies and procedures from Reagan and Bush I in place.

It was a whole different world back then.

Pre 9/11 days, when the threat of terrorists coming in across the open borders never concerned the majority of the public.

Now, however, it does. And it concerns us that the flow of illegals has turned into a staedy stream of who knows what.

I'm from all over. Born in Louisville. Grew up in Indiana. Also lived in Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama. Currently in Oklahoma.

The illegals have definitely depressed the areas whereof you (and I) speak. They have virtually destroyed north Tulsa as I'm sure they have St. Louis.

But the carnage in Kalifornia, particularly southern Kal is unbelievable.

They're destroying the infrastructure. Overwhelming social services like no place else. Completely shutting down emergency rooms because they selfishly insist upon using ERs as their primary care provider.

And, yes, in LA for example, a home will sell for twice what it sells for elsewhere. But the (prospective) seller is only rich on paper. The vast majority of them can't afford to move.

Yet thanks to the crimigrants, decent folk don't want to stay.
