For liberals, charity is something you do with other people's money.
"There is, of course, nothing wrong with people deciding not to part with their own money."
Therein lies the great liberal hypocrisy. They are generous with YOUR money, not their own.
Cheney is a good example of how it should be. Let the Cheney family decide their charitable contributions. The reason Teddy Kennedy is so revered here in Massachusetts is that he is great at taking money away from people who work and giving to those who don't.
Lately I've been hearing (in the media) how small-c conservative Rubert Murdoch has been very generous to the campaigns of Hilary, Hairy Reed, Barbara Boxer, etc.
That is disturbin.
Liberals are outraged that Cheney is so rich and that he voluntarily donated rather than being taxed and forced to pay more!
Cheney/Rice 2008
I know, I know...he's said he's not interested...
but folks do change their minds.
and who out there is better qualified? anyone? anyone...

There are a few exceptions. My dad is an extreme knee-jerk bleeding-heart socialist that donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to charity. Unfortunately, they are terrible causes, like Planned Parenthood and the Sierra Club!!!
Since it's his money, he can do what he wants with it. Is there anything in the news about the charities Cheney picked? Or just an overall figure?

The "Gift Trust Agreement" the Cheney's signed two days before he took office turns over power of attorney to a trust administrator to sell the options at some future time and to give the after-tax profits to three charities. The agreement specifies that 40% will go to the University of Wyoming (Cheney's home state), 40% will go to George Washington University's medical faculty to be used for tax-exempt charitable purposes, and 20% will go to Capital Partners for Education , a charity that provides financial aid for low-income students in Washington, DC to attend private and religious schools.
The agreement states that it is "irrevocable and may not be terminated, waived or amended," so the Cheney's can't take back their options later.
Btw, this is a great link to keep handy whenever lefties howl about Cheney and Halliburton.
Thanks, I appreciate the info. If he only has three beneficiaries, those are substantial gifts indeed.
And remember how the Democrat Propaganda Machine (i.e. the "Mainstream Newsmedia") glossed over the indefensible scandals of the Clinton Administration by deflecting attention to the "booming Clinton economy" but has glossed over the booming Bush economy by deflecting attention to fabricated scandals, fabricated by the same Propaganda Machine and the Leftist politicans it serves, of the Bush Administration???
And remember how all those so-called "journalists" dutifully parrotted the Democrat catch-phrases--endlessly, mind-numbingly, as useful idiots: "the smartest woman in the world", "Ken Starr is out of control", blah blah blah blah (I can't even remember all that mindless blather)???
And these so-called "journalists" wonder why the American people rank them below used car salesmen and ambulance chasing lawyers and rank their Propaganda Organs (i.e. newspapers, newsmagazines, network television, etc.) down there with tabloid scandal sheets and such propaganda organs as Pravda under the Soviets. Curiously, today Pravda is more reliable than the American press.
When the American press decided to become a Propaganda Machine, it abrogated its responsibility to inform the public and relinquished its authority, much to the disgust of the American people.
To the morons at DU, nothing is more admirable than spewing Karl Marx talking points while being cheaper than Scrooge.
Isn't there some way you could restrain your dad? Maybe get him interested in St. Jude's?
From the link in the article:
The majority of Americans do not realize how devastatingly effective the media is in shaping attitudes. They can and will destroy the reputations of those they oppose. What is so alarming is that the media mistakes their limitations for high standards.
What do you suggest to "restrain" him? Take over his power of attorney by proving he's incompetent due to his donations? :)
"...Maybe get him interested in St. Jude's?"
I don't think anything illustrated the hatred of the mainstream media for this administration than the Cheney tax stories.
Here is a man who gave away almost 2/3 of his income, millions, and the titles over their stories on it all read Cheney gets back over a million in refunds.
It was disgraceful.
The Clintons are their own favorite charity.
That is true. Now about the story. The only thing that is different between Gore and Chaney (as far as charity at the time) is that the Gore's were putting through two kids in college and they did not have a best selling book at the time (Lynn's book did well). I can't stand the Gore's but at least give reasons for the lower amount. They were barely millionaires. I bet they give more money now though. LOL.
