This would actually be unfair to employers. Employers are very limited in how far they can go in verifying ID and background, due to anti-discrimination laws.

That's funny. I don't recall any such "anti-discrimination law" that keeps an employer for ascertaining citizenship/immigration status. Please provide proof that such exists.

Nonsense. In every job I've started in the last 10 years or so, on day 1 I had to show up with proof of citizenship like a birth certificate or a passport.

Strange, when I was hired last year for part time work at a local bank they checked out my SSA# and it had a typo in it...bounced back within 4 days....was I discriminated against?

That's a load of hooie. I worked (until very recently) in the employment function of a large company. You have to provide proof of your ability to legally work in the US on your first day of work.

You can BS up to that point, but without the necessary documents, you're going home.

I don't see why. Everytime I contract my services out they need my SS#, Drivers License, sometimes even my passport. If an illegal can't product valid ID then they shouldn't be hired and there should be very severe penalties for employers that do. Besides it's very easy to spot an illegal alien in most cases.
