I am still wondering why we have "Pre-K". Why are people so eager to make their children leave their homes while they are still practically babies? I remember when kindergarten wasn't required, and if your child attended it was really for "fun" rather than serious education. Are these additional two years of education producing improved graduates at the high school level?

Mine didn't attend daily pre-k. IMO, they were much better off at home.

My niece is in a rural area east of Williamson County.

Agree, agree, agree. And to answer your last question, I sincerely doubt it.

I did not attend pre-K (or even 'K' for that matter), and somehow managed to graduate with honors (from both high school & college). I'm not saying this to brag (truly), but rather to point out that children can and do succeed without pre-K, or pre-pre-K, or who-knows-what.

Parents shouldn't be so eager to relinquish their children to the public school system, and kids really need to time to be 'just kids' ... childhood has become almost nonexistent in today's world.

The preK advocates in FL managed to get a ruling a couple of years ago that made preK mandatory for any child "in the system." They hoodwinked and maneuvered using a case where a child was injured or murdered (I can't remember), saying "if she had been in preK, she would be not injured/alive today." They use any in they can grab because, of course, their intention is to make preK mandatory for all children in this country. Get the kids away from the parents asap.
