Well the military person is supposed to be better trained and equipped than the average convenience store clerk, who is the most likely to be killed on the job. The police officer also is better trained and equipped, and the clerk and the officer deal with a lot of the same people! I am not convinced of the Heinlein idea that only those who have military service should vote, etc. The military has its share of persons of all types. Last time I checked agricultural workers had a high injury and death rate;big city cops often whine about their hazards but they are not statistaclly number one.
Wearing the dress blues while walking across the stage would have been a way of calling attention to himself in a way not warranted. He ought to have worn the gown and cap across the stage, accepted his diploma, stepped offstage and then removed said gown after all others had completed the walk.He could then display his special status .
I'm sorry the young man chose to not receive his diploma in the usual manner.I wish him well.
I reiterate: there is no comparison at all between the hazards of other occupations to those experienced by our service personnel - particularly Marines and soldiers - in combat.
You are either being intentionally deceptive with your comparisons or you need to a bit more reading about the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan before you make pronouncements that are so demonstrably false.
