If this is failure what does success look like?

Let me ask you, do you want government news or a free press?

Unbiased news is what we want.

...do you want government news or a free press? Oh great point, because, you know, the two are completely mutually exclusive. Anything produced and distributed by the gub'mint MUST be worthless propaganda and automatically considered lies.
I think the DU would fit your teenage paranoia mentality far better than here.

Why are you here - to get government generated news reports?

All news is biased. The answer is more news.

183+ views on your thread. I maintain that if there was a strong agreement with your complaint (if that's what it is?), there would be many more replies.

I certainly am. I trust the government much more than I trust the "Free Press" in this country. The press may not be government controlled but it is controlled.

Everything from "The Rolling Stone" and "The New York Times" to "The Washington Times" is controlled? By whom?

The answer is obviouly no we do not want gov't news. We do not however have a free press. We have a press that has annointed itself the arbitrator of truth and that sir is more dangerous than gov't news.

--- Are you saying there's not? --- If we had a truly free press then you'd know that Saddam trained 1000s of Arabs for attacks against the USA. You'd know about "Blessed July." You'd know that the Osama group and the Taliban visited Iraq a few weeks before 9/11. And you'd know that German intelligence, French intelligence, Russian intelligence, Chinese intelligence all reported Saddam armed with WMD and a world threat.!
But you do not know that. So how free are you!

If that truly were the case, someone would start another newspaper. Truth, like nature, abhors a vacuum.

controlled by a clique of people who are like minded in their world view. No they don't get together every morning and decided "this is going to be the news" but they all have the same mindset they hire from a pool of "talent" that has the same mindset and this produces a biased product. Truth be told it has gotten to the point where the news media has now started making up news, Jayson Blair, Dan Rather etc.

Me knowing that or not is not the issue. You know it from some where. How do you know it's true?

"controlled by a clique of people who are like minded in their world view."
Please.
"The only way two people can keep a secret is if one of them is dead."
~I wish I knew who said that.
To: leadpenny
no one said they are keeping a secret, they think alike, they are ideological clones of one another. Anything they say is suspect and should not be trusted.

That kind of paranoia is usually reserved for the Left and your charges are normally leveled at the Right. Who are these like-minded ideologues?
To: stocksthatgoup
Afghanistan is not Iraq. The people in the country side are living in what amounts to the dark ages even today. It will take generations to bring them out of it.
