Amen you pegged it right on. People like George Bush, Jeb Bush and many Republican Senators realize this also. The glory of the Senate is because of the terms they have they can take a long term perspective. We have to have a large amount of the Hispanic vote in the future to be a viable party period. Many of these illegals have been here for 20 or more years have American families and so on. These people will vote. Also calling American citizens "Anchor babies" and making further degrading comments about them because of accidents of birth isnt going to be a great draw to the GOP. THe marketing and listening to the Hispanic community by the House memebers has been horrid.

It seems there is a logic to this by the "deport them all crowd". It appears to me that many wish to you use this as a issue in 2006 and really in 2008. THe theory is that the so many people will come to the Republican party, that victory is assured. I have major doubts about this and in fact think it will have the opposite effect. In Virgina when the GOP canidiate for Gov used this in the 11th hour it failed big time. IN fact, some folks think it cost him the election. Sen Santorum I believe is a pretty hard liner on the illegal immigration issue. Well, I see that his stance is helping him big time in his race (sarc).

Whats ironic is that the majority of Mexican AMericans feel illegal immigration is a mjor problem. There is some diversity there in that community how to handle the problem. THe GOP and conservatives need to listen. This is a group that the GOP can rely on for future votes in the future.

I suppose you think we should be happy when some 9 months' pregnant invader sneaks into the country, heads immediately for the hospital, gets free medical care for the delivery, and is signed up for welfare, WIC, and food stamps before she leaves the hospital. These people are stealing money from ME that could be used for MY children.

"We have to have a large amount of the Hispanic vote in the future to be a viable party period."

You are right.

The legal immigration we have tends to be more self-sufficient and higher-educated than the illegal aliens. Most illegal aliens have high school educations, if that, and will be low-wage earners. We should respect legal immigrants and all ethnic minorities and exress desire to want them to participate fully in the American dream, *in accordance with the law*.

Giving 10 million illegal aliens amnesty will permit about *30 million* migrants to come in in the next 20 years, and their use of welfare will be much, much higher than current citizens. They will be urban dwellers (Democrat territory) and their incomes will be in the range of typical Democrat voters.

There is not way in h8ll these voters will be majoirty Republican. Rather, they will form a large component of the Democrat base.

If we want to be a viable party, therefore, the LAST thing we want is a flood of illegal aliens that will become insta-Democrats. Instead, we should fight against amensty and work with the Hispanics who are *here* legally to increase their economic opportunities.

It is also true that bad policies never make for good politics, and hispanic citizens oppose amnesty to illegals just as do other citizens. The Republicans will NEVER be able to out-pander to these, because as the law-and-order party we cannot abide catering to people who break the law, but Democrats can and will. Such a strategy will end in electoral breakdown, as polls are starting to show.

"Also calling American citizens "Anchor babies" and making further degrading comments about them because of accidents of birth isnt going to be a great draw to the GOP."

Excuse me, but these arent 'accidents of birth', but many thousands, cases of deliberate use anmd abuse. For example, my wife is an immigrant. She knows of places/homes/facilities where women will come here, stay a while to have a baby come to term, so they can have the baby here... this is done on tourist visas. In border towns, the women come over as illegal immigrants - in LA county, the majority of live births are now to illegal aliens mothers. This is not an 'accident' but a deliberate attempt to abuse the system.
We should end 'birthright citizenship' a concept that we didnt have in our history, and almost no country has. Just because someone gives birth here doesnt mean their children should be US citizens. That should be considered only if parents are legal residents here in the US.

Lastly, you are GREATLY confused. Illegal alien and hispanic are not synonymous. Yes, lets listen to Hispanic *citizens*, and you'll find they are for respect for the community but hardly the bending-over amnesty policies that will allow floods of migrants to come over. You fall into the same trap as some of the anti-immigration folk.

"The glory of the Senate is because of the terms they have they can take a long term perspective. "

The long-term persepctive is this: 20 years ago amnesty was tried and it was an abysmal failure that made illegal immigration far, far worse. Simple psychology explains why: Illegal aliens calculated that, eventually, they would be 'legal' citizens and so were induced to come here irregardless of the laws. We should have reasonable levels of *legal immigration* and do our best to eliminate illegal immigration. Guest worker and other visas are needed, but NOT an unlimited blank check program for illegals.

Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it. Amnesty was, is, and will be a total failure.
