The problem I have with what you wrote is that Bush has been the most visible champion for a guest-worker program (whose many incarnations included various forms of amnesty). Bush was pushing this back in 2004 after agreeing to terms of his proposal with Mexico's Vincente Fox.And that was just fine...until Uno de Mayo!
Once we all saw the audacity our current policy had engendered in illegal aliens, everything changed.
