Gibson inspired by 'fear-mongering' Bush (Mel Gibson)

Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film Apocalypto.
The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.
Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.
He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".

He should have consulted with Tom Cruise before shooting off his mouth.

the fact that it left out the resurrection really bothered me. The resurrection scenes at the end of the movie were the most powerful part of the movie.
You ought to watch it again.

I never thought about it that way but you are right.

This surprises me some but not totally. Gibson is a very Traditional Catholic. In Traditional I mean Latin mass only and associates with folks that think Vatican II was a tool of the devil. In fact I think in reality that Gibson belongs to one of these schismatics churches that are in opposition to Vatican II etc. Whats interesting is that many in that group are conservative politically in a Pat Buchanan sense. I really don't know why that group tends to go that way or at least have many of that ilk in those churches. I suspect this is where Mel is coming from.

It is amusing who all the Gibson fans suddenly turn on him when he dares to criticize our sainted president.

"Fearmongering".
He's being sarcastic, right?
Even some Dems have let slip that the Administration is downplaying the dangers we face.

I don't think I could watch it again and apparently I really did fall asleep before the end because I don't remember much of the movie except the beatings.

He seems to be doing this deliberately. An earlier interview on the movie set also showed symptoms of wanting to please the Hollywood Left, although not quite as grotesquely as this.
Well, I must say I think he's being very stupid. He will find it easier to offend his many conservative admirers than to mend relations with the liberals, who frankly will never forgive him. His career is likely to deteriorate from here, I'm afraid.
The story of conservatives who betray their beliefs and turn left is generally not a happy one. Ask that traitor from The American Spectator.
Too bad. Well, I'll still consider seeing the movie after I've seen a few reviews of it by people I trust. Unfortunately not many of those are still in the movie reviewing business, especially since Terry Teachout quit writing for Crisis Magazine.

No. He said something to the effect that "you can sit in this and eat from here", implying that it was his creation, his improvement over the reclined dining of the day.

But of course, on FR, anyone who isn't a Bushbot is automatically a communist jihadi. Insisting that Bush doesn't actually commit human sacrifices is far from being a Bushbot. There's legitimate criticism (spending too much, illegal immigration policies...) then there's insane criticism. That's what this is.

About the only thing Gibson ever said or did that was worthwhile was making "The Passion of the Christ." Everything before or since was pretty mindless and superficial.
And the trend continues.

"What the past 5 years have really shown is that government officers at all levels are deathly afraid of we the people."
You're too funny.
I suppose that's why Bush wants to ram ILLEGAL ALIENS down our throats ... it must be because GWB is afraid of us?
LOL!!!
Government is not afraid of us. They have us right were they want us. It is terrorists that they don't have control of.
In case you have forgotten over the past five years but 9/11 caused nearly 3,000 deaths. This was on OUR soil. We had more death there than PEARL HARBOR. Try NOT to forget THAT.

If I could return my copy of the Passion of the Christ to get my money back, I would. Sell it.
Trash it.
Use it as a frisbee or coaster.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.
This reminds me of Anne Coulter's jumping-the-shark moment with regards to her blind acceptance of absurd ID/Creationism.
