Gibson inspired by 'fear-mongering' Bush (Mel Gibson)
UKNews ^

Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film Apocalypto.

The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.

Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.

He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".

I think that is part of the reason why the MSM has gotten a hold of this and doesn't want to let go. They think by bringing down Mel (and he did a great job of that himself by drinking and driving) they can bring down what Passion of the Christ did and proved. It showed that a movie about Christ not inside the Hollywood establishment could be a sucess. That scares them and that is why they want the total destruction of Mel. He has said what many well known lefties have said but he's still the enemy because of POTC. (That's Passion of the Christ not Passion of the Clones. wink)

You're flip flopping now........BIG TIME!

I pinged you to this thread, because you had originally claimed that what he had said wasn't "political". You're beginning to get all Clintonian and a bore.

Dear nopardons,

No, what I said was that his political leanings and speech are separate from his anti-semitic ravings, which belong to an entirely different class of utterances.

Professionally, Mel is a very talented actor and a good screenwriter. Socially, Gibson is a raving lunatic and does not speak for Christians--only his paranoid delusions. Get off the bottle, Mel!

Name a government that doesn't maintain power by taking advantage of the blind masses.

I look at actors and movie producers like I do pro athletes. I don't even want to know them personally, it spoils the illusion. If I had a dollar for every athlete and movie star who is great at his profession but is a lousy individual, I could buy a pro football team.

Bush's terrible poll numbers reflect a deepening crisis for Republicans, and the remarks of the solid, respectable Gibson are simply another aspect of that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I thought it was in turns silly (e.g. the scene that implied that Jesus the carpenter invented the table-chair combo and the depiction of Satan) and melodramatic without being at all thought-provoking.

The Passion is a great movie on many different levels. It proved that a religious movie, that goes against everything Hollywood stands for, could be successful and that the movie did not even have to be made in Hollywood. It was produced offshore and was not even in English. No, it was not perfect, but it accurately and reasonably demonstrated what my Lord and Saviour had to physically endure as a human in order that my sins(and they are many) would not be counted against me.

Please note also that the idea of the crucifixion and passion parades are not anything new. Millions of Christians worldwide look back to this event and act it out every year.

Look at any man under a microscope for long enough and you will find that no one is worthy to represent Christ on this earth. Just because Mel Gibson is a very poor example of what a Christian should be, does not mean we have to lose focus and forget how sinful we all are and that we do have an example we can all follow, namely the risen Christ Jesus.

God bless you.

Not that the resurrection was the main focus of the movie, I don't believe the resurrection was left out of the movie.
The movie portrayed a living Jesus at the end.

You really think an A-list Hollywood star going publically nutso is only covered by the MSM to bring down Christianity?

So, how did Tom Cruise's much-covered meltdown bring down Christianity?

Ridiculous. MSM is there because it is newsworthy. Don't take it personally, and don't blame the media for what Mel did to himself.

Only the latest reason to be glad not to have followed the masses (no pun intended) who praised The Passion According to Mel.

I don't think you are even close on this one. Mel threw a few scenes in on his own, but the story of the passion of Christ comes straight from the Bible. It's nothing new, certainly nothing anyone could have made up.

I would not teach verbatim this movie in a Sunday school, but it did help to get out the reality of what Jesus went through.

Real smart Mel, miff off at least half the country to get back in the good graces of the small lefty hollyweird socialist hive.

I don't buy this story.. The story was supplied by an outsourced wacko film mag "HOTDOG" and reprinted without reconfirmation from any Gibson source, in other media reports that can't wait to bash Gibson.. I'd wait to get a confirmation from someone with credibility..

I never saw the movie.
I never believed for ONE MINUTE that MG made this movie because of his Christian beliefs and or share the gospel.
I believe it was to MAKE MONEY and the way he managed to convince churches to turn out in droves made him a LOT of money. I would like an honest assessment of that movie from Christian Freepers here who have seen it.

I may rent it if I get enough positive feedback to this post about the movie.

I think he did it for both. I don't think he would have made this particular movie for money alone. If he wanted money he would have just hooked up with some of his Hollywood buddies and wrote a movie with a bunch of violence and sex in it. This movie ticked off a lot of Hollywood people for a number of reasons and I think they are still out to get him. I still stand behind him on his making of The Passion. For the most part, it was a brilliant work of art that gave justice to the biblical account of Christ's crucifuxion--a real eye opener. I really think God blessed Mel for his reverential effort to tell the truth to the masses.

I know Mel messed up big time and I hope he gets help for his alcohol problem more than anything else. He has apologized for what he said about Jews and he looks like a man who is not stuck on himself and is willing to do what it takes to make things right. I say cut the man a break. It would be a huge mistake to bail out on the guy who proved that Jesus can make it on the big screen.

God bless you.

"The Passion did not leave out the resurrection. The movie ends with a shot of the risen Christ as He is leaving the tomb."

Well, then I guess he wasn't really dead after all (being part of the Trinity), and therefore the Jews didn't kill Christ, did they....

Good point.

Several Christian friends (and my parents) were adamant about seeing it, especially when the MSM and Hollywood "badmouthed" it so much. They told me THEY DID find it rather "gory and violent" to watch, even thought they KNOW from reading the Bible that is what Christ endured.

In the movie's defense, however, I don't think my mom has been to see a movie in a theater since "Grease," and she can NEVER stay awake long enough to watch a movie on DVD at home, so she has not seen ANY movie in years and is therefore oblivious to the types of violence shown in movies nowdays.

I will probably eventually rent it. I DO HATE subtitles though as I find it very distracting to have to read and watch the scene above the dialogue. I think he should have started the movie speaking in Aramaic and then made a transition into English, just for easier viewing of the movie (sort of the way they did in "Hunt for Red October").
