Well GW that sheriff just said hell no to troops on the border.
I know. He said Border Patrol and local law enforcement could handle it easily. And he's right.
But we probably need something more substantive before we trust the amnesty-lusters in Washington.
I favor a big fence with a minefield and sensors and a chain of National Guard and military training bases there.

I favor a big fence with a minefield and sensors and a chain of National Guard and military training bases there. You would have loved East Berlin in the eighties.

Contrary to the baiting you're attempting, I'll point out it is profoundly un-American to allow your homeland to be invaded and your fellow-citizens to be living in fear and to allow school districts, hospitals and even entire states to verge on bankruptcy. Their labor is only cheap if you refuse to account for the real costs of their invasion.
And Berlin's wall was a prison wall, built to contain the inmates. Our wall will protect our country from foreigners and the problems they bring to our country illegally.

This will mean Bush's poll numbers will drop even more. The president is on very thin ice with his base. He has to close the borders before we even think of doing anything else.

How many U.S. citizens are picking strawberries 10 hours per day here in California? That's not an "insult" to anyone.

Until I know more, that's about all I'm thankful for regarding the matter.

>>The other viewpoint is that we are merely holding this country in trust for our children and their children. It is not our place to make short-term decisions that devalue their eventual inheritance.<<
I take it that means you are opposed to amnesty. Good on you!

I agree. Well said. Yeah but Apraio earlier today stated he didn't want troops in his state. What now?

Most of the anger toward President Bush is not really because the border is not secure, the anger at Bush is because even though the border is not secure, he still insists on a guest worker plan. Without a secure border any plan to legalize illegals will become amnesty and the result will be more illegals. We already have more illegals, simply because a guest worker plan is being discussed. It's not that people concerned with border issues demand that every border issue be solved- it is that we insist the current problem not be made worse.
First do no harm would not be a bad first step on the border issues.

I have no idea why they only caught 1 immigrant last night, but I can assure you that Maricopa Country has large numbers of illegals in jail. I can also assure you that even larger numbers are in Maricopa County and not in jail. Catching illegals is a lot like fishing, many nights busloads are caught, and many nights none are caught. I also have to say, that Sheriff has a no nonsense reputation, I would imagine many illegals will go around that area because he is determined to keep them in jail and not turn them over to BP for deportation. Illegals are well aware what the Sheriff plans to do, it has been all over TV in Mexico.

I hate going to an ATM and having a machine that is completely advertising for my business in English asking me if I want to conduct my business in Spanish, and then compelling me to answer that before they will consider letting me get access to my money!
I hate that.
Pushing that button is a job that I don't want to do.
I refuse to push the button for English. If the default language on an ATM or credit card machine ever comes up as other than English, that business will no longer get my money!

Well put. Perhaps this part of the Hypocratic Oath ought to be added to the swearing in oath.

Was that comment upon the Mexicans really necessary? They are the ones being exploited. I think so: I think there are a lot of people on these threads whose primary problem -- though they'd never admit it -- is the ethnicity of the border crossers. Whether or not you fall into that camp, I cannot say. However, when (as often happens) I encounter somebody who will not address the issue rationally, I can pretty much guess his real complaint.
