New York. After his second smash-up in three weeks, Patrick Kennedy was escorted home by obliging cops and to hell with any test for booze or drugs. Tests are for the lower orders, not Kennedys. Chappaquid-ding one’s way out of trouble is in the Kennedy tradition. A smash-up is followed by a cover-up, then by denial of responsibility due to circumstances beyond their control, all neatly presented in a press conference for genuflecting hacks, and then on to rehab. Congressman Kennedy says that he doesn’t remember anything about the crash. He would, wouldn’t he? He was speeding, driving in the wrong lane and, after smashing into a barrier, was unsteady on his feet, his speech slurred and his eyes red and watery. Witnesses at a local bar said he had been drinking. Kennedy insists he had not. The cops took his word. A nice touch, that. Thirty-two years ago, his father Senator Ted and his cousin Joe, also a Congressman, flew into Athens as guests of the newly elected democratic government following seven years of military rule. Ted and Joe rang me up for dinner, and asked my then American girlfriend to bring along a couple of her friends. She did, and we lived to regret it. After Joe and I had left for a nightclub, Teddy got horribly drunk, undressed himself and started to break poppers. The girl, Anita Clifford, panicked and ran all the way to my house, where she proceeded to ring her father in Connecticut. A prominent attorney, he flew over the next day to confront the senator but Teddy and Joe had flown out that day to visit...the Pope — on Gianni Agnelli’s private jet, to boot...

Kennedy didn't have a drinking problem until he got caught.
Then his remorse is all about getting caught and what he can do to keep his job since he was caught.
He managed to avoid criminal charges because of his noteriety and hesitation if Law Enforcement because of that public image.
Living a privliged life has it's benefits. Taking responsibility for one's actions is not on that list.

Since there are women out there who are willing to sleep with Ted Kennedy, there is absolutely nothing I could say or do to insult women that could compare with that harsh reality.

Well really, people are too hard on the Kennedy's. They can't help the lying, and drunkeness, and stealing, and murdering, and filandering, and womanizing, and all that. Because when kennedy's do what kennedy's do, they're just being true to their family heritage and genetics. I guess some things are genetic beyond appearance.
Chances are that the women were drugged by the Kennedys.

Yeah really. And this just hit me. Can you imagine a new young adolescent Kennedy hitting dating / socializing age, and getting a speach from a parent about "now remember, you're a kennedy, don't do anything that would embarrass or reflect poorly on our family". OMG what a complete and total joke! If ever there is a conservative gene that sneaks unmolested in the kennedy gene pool and isn't killed from the drinking and drugs during the pregancy, or an accidental death from a car tumbling into a river or off a bridge, and that resiliant gene somehow becomes a kennedy kid, I can see that kid laughing outloud and retorting to their parent "Yeah right! Are you serious! Do you not know who our family is!" :) I mean really. Is there ANYTHING a kennedy could do that could possibly embarrass or reflect poorly on a kennedy? I suppose one thing. One of them could abstain from heavy drinking, not sleep around, be faithful to their wife, and register as a Republican, then attend right to life conferences and join the Conservative Coalition. I think that might all get them excommunicated from the kennedy klan.
I think it appears to be a smile on his left knee because that's his "drinking" knee. The Doctors must have told him his liver can't take it anymore, so he's taking his hooch intravenously through the knee now, thus making it appear that his knee is always smiling. :)
