Harris Comments on Bense Announcement

Florida House Speaker Allan Bense announced today that he will not challenge U.S. Representative Katherine Harris in the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate.

According to an Associated Press account, Bense said, "I have been extremely honored and humbled by the strong support and encouragement I have received from my family, my friends, and from people across Florida who I admire greatly, however, I have decided not to run for the United States Senate."

"I respect Allan Bense's decision and appreciate his noble service to Florida. Allan has been a friend over the years, and I look forward to working with him in the future to win in November," said Harris in a statement Wednesday.

"Our campaign is focused on defeating liberal Bill Nelson. My candidacy is about being a fighter and a strong independent advocate for Florida. People are tired of politics as usual. They are tired of backroom beltway deals. They are tired of partisan politics. While I am a proud and loyal Republican, ultimately, when I cast a vote I always ask, is it the right vote for the people of my state and our nation - as opposed to a partisan game?"

Stanley Tate, Harris Campaign Finance Chair said, "People who know her, know Katherine Harris doesn't quit. She sticks to her guns and she will win in November with your support."

So who controls the senate? If the Republicans tried harder maybe they could control something.

So what are you saying? Forget it, support only "true Conservatives" and let Democrats win if "true conservatives" can't win in their primaries?

I was reading a rumor yesterday that Tommy Franks might enter the race. He's only got until Friday. I'd love to see Franks as a Senator.

"If one didn't know better, one would believe incumbent Sen. Nelson is running stunning re-election campaign using Republican operatives."

Well, I know Harris is nothing great, but she is loyal and has deserved a lot better than the constant dissing by the establishment Repubs and the Bushs. I think they've attempted to kneecap Harris the entire way, pretty disgusting.

I believe there are many scandals around Harris and the administration is convinced that she cannot win (me too).

You believe in the tooth fairy too.

Cute retort...if I were 5. Are you telling me there are no scandals around Kathleen Harris? Are you telling me anything?

Has anybody suggested that Jeb run for the Senate?

Not yet, but should the seat go to a Republican, he wouldn't really be able to run against that Republican in a primary now would he. Perhaps this is what this is all about - giving Nelson another term and setting up a successor.

"Yeah, I hear you. Maybe Toomey coulda shoulda won but if you are worried about maintaining control in the Senate you have to make tough decisions about who to support sometimes."

If anyone should have gone, Specter deserved to go. If the Bush's wouldn't cancel his ticket, what good are they?

...what good are they?

Is that a retorical question or do I have to remind you to count your blessings? If you feel you have no blessings then do whatever it is that people with no blessings do.

You mean the expensive dinner Harris had that was paid for? LOL. If you think that's a scandal, then you also think Clinton is a saint.

This notion that people in Florida will remember 2000 and hold it against Harris is very doubtful. Let one "expert" explain how this factor did NOT appear in 2002 but now with hundreds of thousands of new people in Florida and America's short political memory, this factor WILL appear SIX YEARS later.

Exactly. The notion that the moonbats will suddenly appear and oppose Harris (Like the RNC/FL MSM lie that Harris is "divisive") is just more B.S. Nelson is not going to get any more liberals out than already is. The law of diminishing returns on liberal hatred of Harris is setting in.

"Are you telling me there are no scandals around Kathleen Harris?"

Name names. Extra credit if you can point out one single negative that hasn't been simply manufactured out of thin air by leftmedia agitprop.

By the way, you apparently don't even live in Florida. Don't you have anything going on in your own state that you need to be paying attention to?

First, when it comes to the Senate it IS my business, bub and I'm sick to death of Florida Democrats. Second, I don't know if the scandals were made up or manufactuted. A simple entry into Google produced a number of items. This was first on the list...

http://www.woai.com/news/national/story.aspx?content_id=18EA0943-B5C5-4FA4-98A7-C4F99F3B408F

Is it all made up as you imply? Maybe, that's why I asked. Does it hurt her chances of actually winning? I find it hard to believe it doesn't.

I asked a simple question and get attacked with the implication I should mind my own business. Is this indicative of the people who support Harris? Over to you.

That's what I was asking. What are the scandals? Is there anything there? I keep getting attacked and wonder why folks are so defensive.

As for Clinton being a saint, you assume way too much.

Uh, OK, why should I believe you. Other people have at least offered some data. Is she a hit in Dade County? Has she received great polling data? Is there anything behind your statement other than emotion?

I note that you failed to provide the list that you appeared to have so readily available, judging from your prior statements. The link you provided was to a "scandal" that has been 100% manufactured. Why do you seem to trust the leftmedia so much?

I'm sick of Florida Democrats too, and have met them face-to-face on the street on many, many occasions. Why are you aiding and abetting them by adding your voice to their chorus?

Your actions betray your words. If you truly consider the Senate your business, "bub", (and it indeed is), then you need to check your deafist rhetoric.
