TERRORISM: 'AL-QAEDA CELL' BROKEN UP IN TURKEY

Istanbul, 10 May (AKI) - A suspected al-Qaeda cell has been broken up and its members arrested in Turkey. Among those detained was Abdolhalim Sad, an Iranian, who the Turkish authorities believe is the new leader of the global terror network in Turkey. The cell was dismantled by the Turkish security forces who had been put on the trail by the American secret service, the CIA. The operation dates to two weeks ago but the news of the arrrest of Abdolhalim Sad and other members emerged only on Tuesday.

Turkish intelligence services say that the militants were preparing an attack against the military base at Incirlik which is home to divisions of the US airforce.

The other three arrested were Turkish citizens; Mehmet Yilmaz, Mehmet Belut and Murat Estenleg, who according to Turkish media reports had attended a military camp run by al-Qaeda in Iran, near the border with Iraqi Kurdistan.

Would it not be unreasonable to in-bed our CIA desk jockeys with the Turks and Israelies?

"We (U.S. and Iraqi forces) have been tracking this guy and gathering joint intelligence for the last four months, but the Iraqi Soldiers took the lead and detained this guy and got information on another weapons cache."

Keep up the good work.

Afghan police killed three Taliban insurgents who ambushed a patrol in a southern province where British troops are overseeing security, a provincial official said. "There were no casualties among police either in the ambush or during the clash that followed," Mahaiuddin, who uses only one name, said.

Okay, these Talibozos are like the worst ambushers EVER!! It's probably just as well they bought the farm, or Mullah Omar would have had to fire them and probably chop off some body parts.

Algerian troops stormed an Islamic rebel hideout on Wednesday and killed 10 guerrillas, the largest number shot dead by government forces since the country began an amnesty to end violence, state news agency APS said.

Now that's my kind of amnesty! :-)

Would it not be unreasonable to in-bed our CIA desk jockeys with the Turks and Israelies?

I'm quite sure there's all sorts of cooperation between various allies - including Turkey and Israel - and our CIA, DoD and other U.S. resources.

I don't believe I've mentioned this before, but I'm encouraged by Al Qaeda establishing a formal presence among the Palestinians. Of course I dread the extra terror that may be brought upon innocent Israelis, but I view this as a move of weakness/desperation. They're moving into an area where Israeli intelligence is well established and powerful, and Israeli response is quick, accurate and deadly. That can't be prime duty for a young jihadist. Those evil cowards like going after the weak and innocent.

I think it says a lot for how much damage has been inflicted on AQ's infrastructure. I applaud all the American forces and their partners in this global war on terror, including the Iraqis and Afghans that are nobly trying to establish free societies within a hornet's nest.

There must be one phrase the Tali repeat over and over, "Americans are not Russians... Americans are not Russians..."
