I don't agree. The GOP had a great opportunity for the past six years and they've blown a lot of issues. Hopefully, it's not too late to salvage 2006.

It would be hopeless if the Democrats weren't so defenseless. The GOP policy has been to give the Democrats nothing to campaign on.
The GOP has risked alienating their base. The reward (keeping the Dem base demoralized and unenthused) is a risky strategy. The GOP must hope that GOP voters think their congressman is OK, it's the others who are no good. If they pull that off Tip O'Neil's "all politics is local" will be the lesson learned - unfortunately not a good one in the long run.

I concur. The way the mid-terms are shaping up, I expect to hear (shudder) "Speaker Pelosi" for real next year.
Somebody needs to send about a billion gallons of extremely strong coffee to Senate and House 'Pubbies. If these folks don't wake up soon, it won't be too much longer before they won't have a fancy government title, office, salary or perks to bother waking up for!!

They would be relieved and delighted if Congress finally took responsibility for the nation's borders. They won't be impressed if you just pass bills and call it progress.Right you are, Peggy! They're not enforcing the current laws, so why would we think they'd enforce any new ones. Plus, i don't like any of the ideas they're considering wrt Illegals anyway.

" The GOP had a great opportunity for the past six years and they've blown a lot of issues. Hopefully, it's not too late to salvage 2006. I never thought I'd see the day when I began to wonder if "W" stands for "Weenie," but here I am., .....wondering.
It's so depressing because we've got to watch Frist and the Sissies in the Senate, and they are even bigger, ...er, worse weenies.
I've always viewed the 3rd party thing as a throw-away spoiler vote, but is sure is hard to get enthused by the "leadership" of the GOP.
