As a San Francisco native, I really appreciate your posting this story. I found out so much about the 1906 earthquake that I wasn't aware of, thanks to all the TV programs they recently showed on TV. I didn't realize the absolute devastation of the city. Hundreds of blocks were totally leveled. It just staggers the imagination. The people must have been shell-shocked. But it's good to know that the people of Sonoma County sent food and provisions to San Francisco. I'd never heard the story of the "empty railcar" before. Good post!
I love stories like this. It's natural America, unselfconscious. With or without media attention, it's what we do.
