Here's my take. I have lived on the border for years, and for years money has been thrown at the border problems, and promises have been made and broken. I believed President Bush was a man of his word, I took him at his word and defended him on border issue threads for a long time. I lost respect for President Bush because he has broken promises about what he would do to secure the border. I also lost respect for him when he called the Minutemen vigilantes and I lose more respect for him every time he says "jobs Americans won't do" to me that is a slap on every American. There is no such thing as a job Americans won't do. Americans do all sorts of nasty hard work every day. I lose respect for the man every time he panders to Mexico at our expense.

I am now at the point when it comes to border issues and politicians that I will only believe it when I see it. If this border gets secured I will be among the first to know. If it is President Bush that accomplishes it, then he will gain back some of my former respect. That may sound like a hard line, but I am fed up and pretty words on a website just don't cut it for me.

IMO, border states should be held accountable for not securing their boundaries (that includes coastal), if it's of any concern to it's citizens. Usually the states only pass laws meant to appease the current illegals, but invite more trouble by not enforcing current law. There are many states that allowed the illegal protection, and many are along the southern border. Others invite illegals with offers of free tuition or other freebies.

Bush can't simply wave a magic wand and impose his will on congress, and that's where the problem currently sits. Your anger is a bit misguided if you expect 60+ years of open border policy to suddenly vanish within the span of a few years.

What have your state's lawmakers done about it besides giving lip service to the problem? Where do your congress critters stand? Folks can't b!tch if they send do-nothings like McLoon to D.C. time after time.
