Groups Decry Renegade Border Guards
Two weeks ago, President Bush, who supports a guest worker program (search) that would allow illegal immigrants to stay in the United States, called the Minutemen "vigilantes.""I am against vigilantes in the United States of America; I am for enforcing law in rational ways," Bush said during a press briefing with Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin.
Doesn't look bogus to me.
Too bad the Minutemen weren't on the scene at the time Bush made those statements, huh?
Q (As translated.) Mr. Presidents and Mr. Prime Minister, I wanted to ask you what concrete actions do your governments want to lay out in order to make this partnership a reality as far as energy markets, which is a very critical issue for all of our countries -- energy markets? I also want to ask you in this security and prosperity partnership, when will you include the migratory, or immigration policy in this partnership?
And, President Bush, I wanted to ask you about your opinion about those people who are hunting migrant people along the border.
PRESIDENT BUSH: I'm against vigilantes in the United States of America. I'm for enforcing law in a rational way. That's why you got a Border Patrol, and they ought to be in charge of enforcing the border.
This is the link to the comment, the President was asked about how he felt about immigrants being "HUNTED" on the border, no reference to the Minutemen at all
That sentence doesn't have the word Minutemen in it anywhere that I read.
Read the full transcript. You're wrong.
President Bush used the word 'vigilantes',...granted..... but he did not say the Minutemen were 'vigilantes'.
The reporter and the Minuteman that was interviewed were the ones that said the Minutemen were vigilantes.
Once again just like on board the USS Lincoln what the President said has been taken out of context.
