On immigration, Democrats divided

On immigration, Democrats divided

Splits inside the Republican Party over overhauling immigration have made headlines. But last week's events showed that the Democratic Party and its allies in organized labor and the proimmigrant activist community aren't necessarily on the same page, either.

On Wednesday, Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, sounded almost Republicanesque when he called for ''tough border control." He added, ''I don't like 'guest worker' programs. I think the president's guest worker program is essentially indentured servitude. It doesn't help the immigrant, and it threatens wages."

The MSM rarely reports divisions among Democrats, but here we find it discussed. The immigration issue cuts across party lines, but in both parties the pro-immigration-even-when-illegal forces are in control.

Dean is further to the left than Kennedy on this. He doesn't want just guest workers -- he's insisting on full citizenship.

The Black Caucas/Civil Rights groups aren't too happy about illegals either. They're afraid of losing their MFM (Most Favored Minority) status.

Read the McCain-Keneddy-Bush-Spector-Brownback-Graham-Hagel-Martinez Bill. It puts every illegal that is here now on the path to citizenship and it puts every one of the 400,000 new guest workers (plus their family members) which it proposes to admit annually on the path to permanent residency and citizenship.

To call it a guest worker bill at all is a complete misnomer. It is really an amnesty coupled with a massive expansion of new permanent immigration.

In the Senate, dems voted 40 out of 45 for McKennedy. That is 89%.

Last Dec in the House, the dems voted 166 out of 202 against HR4437. That is 82%.

""Republican strategists, though, called it hair-splitting. Bush, they say, is likely to sign an immigration bill -- including a path to citizenship -- as long as it also tackles the problem of currently illegal residents as well as tightening the border, the sole proposal in a bill passed by the GOP-controlled House.""

Ha ha good one Rove! Make it sound like you Bush is battling the Dems for border enforcement.

I EXPECTED our Republican majority to take a whole different stance on the "immigration" (illegal alien) issue than socialist dems.

I even EXPECTED them to go against the President on this one as they did with the DUBAI PORT deal!

IF they had they would never be in jeopardy of losing House and Senate in November.

We are talking about SECURING the border what part of that doesn't the (R) understand?

These people are BREAKING laws and are gettin a platinum platter of welfare benefits and rights when they get here given to them by the government, JUST EXPLAIN how that makes any sense to anyone!!!

What part of NO AMNESTY, DEPORT THEM do they NOT understand?

In the words of Trump, in the boardroom of public opinion "YOU ARE SO FIRED"!!!

They did! ... that is House bill HR 4377 in a nutshell, passed by the GOP House majority, it is enforcement-only and no-amnesty immigration reform.

"If they had they would never be in jeopardy of losing House and Senate in November. "

Since the Republicans in the House *have* done this, can we conclude the Republican majority is safe?
