Elizabeth Dole sounded desperate last week. Trying to inspire dispirited Republicans, the head of the party's Senatorial Campaign Committee wrote a fund-raising letter urging the GOP faithful to rally, because if Democrats seize power they will "call for endless investigations, congressional censure and maybe even impeachment of President Bush." It's a sad truth of politics that if you can't inspire your voters with a positive vision, you scare them.
But then along came House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to say that, yes, Sen. Dole is exactly right. In a Washington Post interview, Pelosi outlined her plans if the Democrats take control of the House. She started promisingly, vowing quick action to raise the minimum wage, roll back parts of the Republican prescription drug law, implement homeland security measures, and reinstate lapsed budget deficit controls. It was Contract With America litea point-by-point articulation meant to show what the party stands for and demonstrate that she and other Democratic leaders were actual adults. Then, as if to kill her plans in the same interview in which she was hatching them, Pelosi announced that her new Democratic majority would also launch a series of investigations reaching all the way back into the first months of the Bush administration. Across the country, vulnerable Republican candidates are saying thank you to Pelosi. The GOP congressional majorities may now be secure.

I know it's unfashionable to be optimistic around here but Pelosi has lit a fire under the GOP that no issue seems capable of doing. She, in fact, may push the Repbulicans to get back on track in order to make their constituents happy and win votes in November. Let's just hope that doesn't mean more pork.
That is optimistic. :)
"raise the minimum wage..."
Dear Nancy:
If you Washingtonians had not imported so much cheap labor from Mexico, that would not be necessary, and we would not have the higher unemployment that goes along with a higher minimum wage.
About average in terms of scariness among 'Rat babes I'd guess.
I think Bush is on the comeback trail because he needs a target. He's getting one in the Dems Evil Plans for World Domination.
LOL!
Yes, the GOP campaign this fall can be simple:
"Do you want this woman anywhere near power?"
[Insert typical Pelosi pic here]

Morning Mike!
I see you stray out of 'Chat' when I'm not around to keep an eye on you. tsk-tsk-tsk...
If the minimum wage is a sound economic idea, why lot raise it to $40 an hour so even more workers can enjoy the benefits? Oh, that's right. Anyone not worth $40 an hour would be put out of work. Back to the drawing board. . .
Gee, Millee, never thought you'd find out about my wanderin' ways.
Terrific! Think I'll steal it.
Nancy reminds me a little bit of the Wicked Witch of the West on the Wizard of Oz.
Rush and Sean plus the rest of talk radio needs to play Pelosi's moronic statements on a daily basis. That should inspire the base as nothing else can except perhaps the mornoic statements made by the rest of the Liberal brain dead.

THAT is the key, the optimism of Gingrich's Contract. Show America that if a Republican majority can brush aside Democrat obstructionism all kinds of things will be accomplished.
In the end that will do more to win the swing voters, who don't much care what happens to Bush if certain other things are accomplished.
