U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols (telling the Mexican government)
Daily Bulletin ^ | 5/9/2006 | Sara A Carter

Posted on 05/09/2006 6:21:25 AM PDT by IrishMike

While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.

"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.

"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."

Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.

"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.

"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

Millions of aliens have been exiled just since Bush took office - so I disagree with your premise - if hypothetically no immigration laws were being enforced by our gov't, nor were they being respected by the "incoming," there would be less reason to believe that a guest worker program and more laws that support "legal" immigration" will lead to....ZERO illegal immigration. There's been a 64% increase in Border Patrol funding since 9/11 - imagine how well the Border Patrol could do their job if they only terrorists and other criminals were coming over.

Do you think getting this info to the Mexican government is some huge problem?

His answer was to my question regarding those who are other than mexicans.

Are you intentionally taking things out of context? If you are not, I apologize.

He doesn't support criminals - millions have been exiled since he took office - he doesn't support vigilantes either.

>>But how often have we heard that from the RINO enablers??<<

I notice the usual suspects (Bushbots) are conspicuously absent from these threads.

I won't be so impolite as to name names, but most regular Freepers know EXACTLY who I'm talking about.

Consular notification is an agreement between the United States and other countries.

Yes, the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

Some countries have mandatory consular notification and others are voluntary. Mexico is mandatory.

Because they are also a party to the VCCR.

I vote for chicken too - we will have to agree to disagree on whose fault it will be if GOP does not keep Congress.

It seems like advocating the termination the NAFTA, CAFTA and FTAA treaties would be a winning campaign issue.

I read an essay a couple of weeks ago (the bookmark is on another computer or I'd post the link) whose premise was that NAFTA had ruined the Mexican economy. It looked good in the short term, so the agricultural workers left their farms for the factories, but then the factories left for China.

Eventually we're going to have to find a way to fix Mexico. The short (but wrong) answer is to invade. What can we do to help create a middle class there so that people have a shot at a decent life and don't have to come here to keep from starving?

But first, BUILD THE FENCE!

Dang. I read this just after I posted how the Bushbots were absent from these threads.

Millions of aliens have been exiled just since Bush took office - so I disagree with your premise

How many "millions?

And how many "millions" of those, and them some have come right back, repeatedly. I recall when the '86 Amnesty Bill was passed, some 3 million illegals were made "legal." Now the number has surpassed 4 times that.

if hypothetically no immigration laws were being enforced by our gov't,

And just where did I say no immigration laws have been followed? Or was that "hypothetical" on your part?
