U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols (telling the Mexican government)
Daily Bulletin ^ | 5/9/2006 | Sara A Carter

Posted on 05/09/2006 6:21:25 AM PDT by IrishMike

While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.

"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.

"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."

Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.

"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.

"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

I used to laugh at the percentage of pollsters who responded "don't know" or "no opinion." My first thought was, "if you don't know what's going on in the world, why are you taking the poll.

With how Bush has been treating his base and, according to the latest polls, an overwhelming majority of Americans, I now understand how you can be completely informed (better than the pollsters, perhaps) and then respond to a question like, "Do you think Bush believes he is doing what is best for the country?" with a reply like...

"I just don't know anymore."

I feel your pain, but we must all realize that the government in this country is not going to change by vote alone. Pubs, Rats, or a third party will all become the same elitists, screwing the rest of us for their own benefit.

I agree in general terms but every journey must start with a single step.

We have to give their counsel the information about their apprehension, and that includes where they are apprehended, whether a Minuteman volunteer spotted them or a citizen.

Oh, I see, now Minutemen aren't citizens?

Now that's one serious Freudian slip.

"Migrants' rights" to what? .....enter our nation illegally, have millions of anchor babies, bring in third-world diseases, and leach off the U.S. taxpayer?

Since GWB is asleep at the wheel, too bad the governors of CA,TX, NM & AZ don't deploy their National Guard units to the border...the ones who are not already securing the border in Iraq.

Which brings up another issue. They can't if the NG's aren't home to do it with. They are busy being foreign soil deployed. Their mission is being abused and that has been a major problem since Gulf War one. The problem of using NG's on a regular deployment basis has not been brought under control in the past 16 years. It's something Poppy Bush started up {yes I know other POTUS have used them also} using NG's rather than simply increasing permanent active duty strengths. Five years after 9/11 doing so though is ridiculous and just plain poor planning in the civilian leadership.

"Last year an internal memo notified all agents not to give credit to Minuteman volunteers or others who call in sightings of illegal aliens," said one agent, who spoke on the condition he not be identified. "We were told to list it as a citizen call and leave it at that. Many times, we were told not to go out to Minuteman calls."

I agree with your post, but you left out one critical issue.

In this latest frenzy of debate, we have lost sight of one of the biggest issues of our times: judicial appointments.

There are still a lot of seats that need to be filled. The longer we allow the left to distract us from this issue, the longer it allows Bush to avoid it. He obviously doesn't have much will to fight for his nominations. He makes a nomination and leaves the candidate out there by himself/herself with no presidential muscle to get them appointed.

The Left is salivating at the prospect of majorities in the houses this November, blocking all future judicial appointments, and then stacking the judicial deck against America for the next 15 years.

Remember, everything we do regarding illegal immigration is a wasted effort if there are judges who can strike it all down as a violation of civil rights.

No the Marxist infiltrators came here between WW1 & WW2 then took over our universities. Their teachings produced the Idiots running our nation who are many times Marxist of some degree.

Rove counts on increased Hispanic vote to retain control

If the Bush admin believes that by trashing the Minutemen-patriots and pandering to the illegal alien crowd they're more likely to retain congressional control they're even dumber than they look. First of all, taking the vote of the GOP base for granted is a fool's assumption, and secondly the GOP has always been notoriously unsuccessful at winning over minority groups through pandering.

Good point Ghost. However, we can still boycott by voting with our wallets.
