I have an idea! When we issue birth certificates we hand the parents a high school diplom for the kid at the same time. It would save everyone a whole lot of time and money.

What the hell? Incredible! We put up with some amazing things under judicial tyranny, don't we?

Didn't a judge simply throw out Prop 187 also? Against the will of the whole state?

Judge Robert Freedman was appointed to the Superior Court by Governor Pete Wilson in 1998 and elected assistant presiding judge in 2003. Before his judicial career, Judge Freedman was an attorney in private practice with the firm formerly known as Wald, Freedman, Chapman, and Bendes in Oakland for more than 25 years.

This is the same High School Exit Exam that is actually testing 8th Grade Math & English skills. Apparently, it's too much to ask that 12th graders be able to pass it prior to being awarded a diploma. Might damage their self-esteem, 'ya know.....
Unfreaking believable...

According to the article, "the exam discriminates against poor students."
We wouldn't want academic credentials to discrimate against poor students, would we?

The sad thing is, when an employer sees that a prospective employee lists on an application that they completed high school it is just an irrelevant factoid. The degree just does not stand for anything any longer. It once was a guarantee that you had a certain basic set of skills.

We should continue to use the diploma for what it is...acknowledgment that the "student" successfully converted oxygen to carbon dioxide for 13 years.
Then, for those that can prove academic proficiency, issue a Certificate of Academic Accomplishment.

I feel as if I am living in the twilight zone lately. What is going on? UNBELIEVABLE!

There were some proposals here to do something like that. It was to be a two-tiered diploma system but it got shot down.
