WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. motorists finally got some relief at the pump as the national retail gasoline price fell for the first time in six weeks, dipping a penny over the last week to $2.91 a gallon, the government said Monday.

Motor fuel costs dropped for the first time since March 27, but the price remained up 72 cents from a year ago, based on the federal Energy Information Administration's weekly survey of service stations.

EIA Administrator Guy Caruso told Reuters last week that the vast majority of the recent jump in wholesale gasoline prices had been passed on to consumers at the pump and fuel costs were near their peak.

However, the EIA will revise up its current $2.62 a gallon estimate for this summer's average retail gasoline price when the agency releases its monthly energy forecast on Tuesday.

Wal Mart Super Center is offering gasoling at .15 to .20 cents below the competition in my area?

Is Wal Mart getting its gas from China?

Should congress investigate Wal Mart?

Here in my area of WV, the regular gas never made it to 3 bucks this month.

It peaked at 2.96, and in the past few days its dropped to an average of 2.89.

I wouldnt be surprised to see it go back up next weekend though..

I didn't see one station that went down today, only stayed the same or went up.

$3.359-$3.659/self serve regular and I was from Rancho Santa Fe, Escondido, Vista, and Oceanside (all points between}.

Will be putting another $60 in the tank in the morning!

Ours has a discount if you use your Sams or Wally world credit card. They have such high retail sales of other stuff that maybe they can offer it for less.
Better them than ChavezCitgo.

It NEEDS to go down! Harvest starts here next month and the fuel costs to harvest/truck is going to be killer whether you have diesel or gas. There is an expense write off but thats waaaaaaay down the road.

Watch for the little Hitler in Iran to keep mouthing off until the November elections, trying to keep oil prices up so that his American brothers (The Dems) will win back the House and Senate.

It costs too much to chase around for a few cents a gallon when my time is worth $.50/min.

I will gas up tonight and hope that it is ONLY $3.29 a gallon.

I just love paying for this unique southern California blend. /s

I believe we are now OVER 60 cents a gallon in taxes with the sales tax portion hovering around 25 cents a gallon.

Who is gouging who? Let's have a windfall profits tax against these obscene government profits ;-(
