In order for this to be true, a higher percentage of black pitchers would have to be considered "great" than would white pitchers. Which would make it fall into the racist category. Which makes it all so much horse hockey.
To compare Barry Bonds with Babe Ruth - wait, I can't believe I would even put them in the same sentence. Bonds couldn't carry Babe's golf clubs.

Perhaps in San Francisco he is seen as a possibly flawed person who is being used as the whipping boy for all of baseball. Perhaps at home he can get a break from wearing the Scarlet S that the rest of baseball requires. All I know, is that every thread that so much as mentions Barry Bonds, immediately becomes a cheap imitation of a DU thread.
It doesn't mean that we looney left coasters you all like to demean admire him or put him on a pedastal. Maybe it just means we feel that a person who has never failed a league sanctioned drug test should not be treated as a pariah because the league shirked it's responsibility to set proper guidelines and get a tougher policy when the rest of the sports world did.
Bonds may very well have used enhancers, but I'm sure he isn't alone. People have been skirting the system for years, like the old spit ball pitchers, the ones with vaseline on their caps, the ones with sandpaper hidden in them. A generation of baseball players used uppers and other drugs.
Excuse me if I don't think that justifies taking one man, and harassing him non stop. Despite what many like to say, he has not single handedly destroyed baseball. Booing him, like any other player on the other team is baseball tradition, and that's okay. Much of the other venom is not.
Well, if a guy like Josh Gibson had been allowed to play, the Babe might not have even retired the home run king. Records from the segregation era are different, because the best competition wasn't allowed.

True, but it was also during an era before the talent pool was diluted through expansion. So the depth-of-talent thing cuts both ways.
Starting pitching during Ruth's era was probably better. OTOH, Relief Pitching hadn't been invented yet (not really).
Ball parks were generally much bigger, but some had short fences or tight sidelines that offset the depth to straightaway center.
And how does one account for the variation in the 'hardness' of the ball or bat technology? I remember many stories over the years about the ball changing.

Don't know how many he faced, but everyone that he did face was forced to compete in the open market for their position. An individual pitcher will not have a large impact on an individual player's number, but if the overall quality of pitching in the league goes up, then overall batting statistics are going to go down.
If we were to ban all of the Latina Americans from playing today, don't you think the quality of pitching would decline and batting stats improve?
What does that have to do with the number of home runs he hit during his career?
I think that means he didn't play against the best players of his time.

No, it just means that there were some pitchers in the Negro Leagues that were better than those in MLB. With a limited number of roster spots, replacing a poor pitcher with a better pitcher would imrpove overall pitching in the league.
