If we can't help honest people in America then I guess I am wrong and we're not a great country.
Honest people? Welfare? Did you see what the "honest" citizens of NO did for themselves when almost certain death approached?

BTW - I was born in Bed-Sty, just off Atlantic Ave.

Even $10 a visit would make a difference.

ACTUALLY Mexico does give aid to Americans. How about 81 stitches to the flesh on the bottom of a foot, the heel meat all mangled, caught in a motorcycle wheel, About $9.23 United States Dollar. They DO treat me real nice, when I go into the General Hospital, several times, because I was an American, they asked me to come up to the front of the line. Yep, THAT's the way it is here in South of the Rio Grande

I am interested in helping people who need it. If we can't help honest people in America then I guess I am wrong and we're not a great country. I'm not willing to tell honest down and out people to go to hell.

Great point.

We're not supposed to be the Draconian party; that's the way the Dems have slimed us. We just don't want a bloated welfare state that is sucked on by a bunch of lazy vampires.

But for those who need it, we Republicans should be the first ones asking "Do you need help?" And those who do should have the sense that it's nothing to be ashamed of to accept help as a stop-gap measure so they can pick themselves up and get back to self-sufficiency as soon as possible, which in previous times would be so obvious it wouldn't even need to be stated.
