I'm a moderate Republican, but I wouldn't ever vote for a moderate Republican unless I knew they were rock solid in support of immigration enforcement and no amnesty.

Thus I wouldn't vote for Sorenson, even though on most issues she is probably the closest to my positions ideologically.

You are probably right that Sali or Sorenson will be the likely candidate.

Sali's OK by me even though he's a right wing nutcase. Right wing nutcases usually are strong on immigration enforcement.

My dream would be a Vasquez victory. But I don't see evidence that the immigration reform revolution is far enough advanced to swing a primary election like that one.

Two years from now it will be. Of course, if they manage to pass an amnesty next year then the open borders politicians will be dropping like flies in the 2008 elections, although that will be little consolation for the damage amnesty will do to our country for decades to come.

This, however, is a very promising sign:

"The contest among the six Republicans in the primary has been the noisiest, with much of the debate coming over the issue of illegal immigration – just as the issue has hit Congress and national headlines. "

I read an article that mentioned that illegal immigration was a hot issue in the open 3rd district in Nebraska.

They have a primary in Nebraska tomorrow.

The 3rd congressional district is open since the incumbent I believe is running for gov.

This is a Republican district.

David Harris appears to be the best, since he was endorsed by Chris Simcox.

John Hanson appears to be the worst- he apparently supports amnesty.

Adrian Smith sounds pretty good based on his positions posted in ABI,

http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidate...cand06_ne3.html

although he apparently opposes a border fence.

Jay Vavricek is the other candidate, he apparently opposes a border wall.

I get the impresson Smith is the front runner.

He seems to have a lot of endorsements

Saw this:

http://www.northplattebulletin.com/NorthPl...ex.asp?pageID=2

Vavricek has attacked Smith in ads, mailings and speeches, characterizing him as a career politician who is soft on agriculture and immigration.

Erdman and Stuhr, who served with Smith in the Legislature, say those criticisms are deplorable and misrepresentative.

Smith is an “advocate for farmers, ranchers and our rural communities. His voting record proves he supports our agricultural industry and the increased production of ethanol,” they said.

In the eight years Smith has been in the Legislature, 19 bills he introduced have been passed.

Smith said campaign attacks are usually aimed at the front runner and are to be expected to degree.

“They are simply not accurate; they are last-minute attacks,” he said. “I am getting lots of great feedback on the campaign trail.”

Smith is scheduled to go door-to-door in North Platte Sunday and on Monday he will attend the dedication Monday of the WWII veterans memorial.

He has visited McCook, Lexington, Cozad, Gothenburg, Ogallala and Sumner in the last two days.

Vavricek has criticized Smith for accepting a $250,000 campaign donation from the “Club for Growth,” of conservative government, which recognized Smith’s work in the Legislature to reduce taxes and curb spending.

Regardless of any contributions, Smith said he will make his own decisions.

“I will continue working to advance ethanol production,” he said. “The Nebraska Farm Bureau has presented me with a “Friend of Agriculture” award for service to ag while in the Legislature.”

Smith said the U.S. must get tough on illegal immigration. Tougher policy is one of the most often heard requests from Nebraskans as he campaigns. Also, he wants federal and state bureaucrats out of local educational systems.

Sounds like Vavricek is probably a good candidate, if he's criticizing another candidate for being soft on illegal immigration.

If I lived there I would probably vote for Harris on account of him being endorsed by Simcox.

Hopefully Smith is OK too, judging from his response to betterimmigration.com. If Harris and Vavricek were on the ball they would have gotten their positions on there also.

Bottom line is, we need a good pro-borders guy in there because Nebraska needs a good "farm team" of pro-borders politicians so that one of them can take on Chuck Hagel next time he's up for re-election.

(I believe that's in 2008)
