"Just for your information, the writer of this article is also pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage. "

I've read Vasilarros for years. While it's a fact he's a complete fool on some topics, he is not an across-the-board fool, like so many today. He's a mixed up guy, but there are some topics on which he has pretty good insight.

Why must this be so complicated?

You have two choices: 1. UN, European type, socialist plan, or 2. American style economic cultural type of development. Trash Bush and the Republicans and you get #1. Take your choice!! The Socialist are already working for you. Cuba and Venezuela have their candidate for President in Mexico, Obrador. The American Systems has its candidate, Calderon.

But I am not sure we want Mexico.

I know that I don't want Mexico.

From your link above:

Likewise, North America will never realize its full potential until the people of this continent, who once lived united as one people, re-unite for the betterment of us all. It is that simple, yet profound idea, which compels me to advocate for a United North American nation. -- [snip]

When did this particular utopian kingdom exist?

What would be the point if Bush gives 11 Million invaders amnesty?

let me know what you think

I find this line particularly interesting.

For years, Democrats have screamed that Republicans are too extreme. With immigration reform, they can claim validation with a House bill that effectively would make 12 million illegals felons.

Now if the House and Senate would pass the bill, and the President sign it, the issue would flare, and die, as the conservative base was energized. The Dems wouldn't have to the make the stupid move they are quite likely to make anyway.

Second, they must stay far away from becoming extreme. Republicans have to be careful because they do have a knack of overplaying their hand -- remember the whole shut-down-the-government moment in 1996?

I remember it well, the one where Monica brought the pizza in for the 'toon. The "government shutdown", that was no such thing. Essential services, such as the military were not much impacted.

However with their allies in the MSM, the Dems were able to spin it as "Newt's fault", when it was arguably just as much Clinton's fault, and that of the Democrat controlled Senate. Not that having the government not spending money for few days was all much of a thing for "blame".

-

If the border were ACTUALLY SECURED first, I'd support that. As long as they truly go to the back of the line fine. Let's assimilate them.

But that's not what has been in play.

What's on the table - and which Bush seems DETERMINED to sleaze into the mix, is amnesty without a real border.

That's been done. It didn't work. It is a sham.

FIRST BUILD THE FENCE.

Why won't Bush just do that? WHY???????????????

America dies, that's what it is doing.

Not on my watch!

. The time when even Claire will say "It's time" may not be here yet, but it seems to be approaching with great rapidity.

The US survived a great Civil War. Now, proportionally more come members of the military come from the "loser" states. All it took was a foreign enemy, the Spanish in that case, the Jihadies and maybe the Chinese in this one, to bring us together.

If we could survive such horrific Civil war, we can survive the present troubles.

Amen. It all depends on the mindset of those Americans who love this country, and what we are willing and able to do to save our country.

My advice: stop looking to the government.

I understand the concerns and I am not blind to the forces that threaten us, but I am not about to give up on true patriots and on this Great Nation.

""We have never been in vaded by an occupying force of 10-20% of our population size before."'

and were not now either..according to your nubmers there are nearly 60m illegals in the country..if that was true, Mexico and all of central america would be de-populated.....FR hyperbole never ceases to disappoint

1. You need to read my post. I said IF Bush passes the amnesty, then we will be looking at 30-60 million illegals (if you include the next wave).

2. Mexico's population is 106+ million right now (which means 10% are already here). There will be no problem for them to produce another 20 million invaders in the next 10 years.

The hyperbole is there, all right. But it is yours.

"Illegal Aliens cost taxpayers $68 Billion annually in federal programs in 2002. Studies estimate that amnesty would increase that three fold.

Perhaps as high as 80% of the violent crime in Phoenix area involves illegal aliens (according to Chief Hurt and Mesa police violent crimes response team)

$311 Billion in uncollected taxes (Barron's study). $200 Billion annually in lost American wages. Native-born American men lost an average of $1700 in wages in 2000 due to US immigration policy (Harvard University).

Maricopa County Hospital loses over $2 million weekly on uncompensated care (largely do to illegal aliens) (2003, 77 border hospitals filed for bankruptcy).

Feds owe $25 million in uncompensated SCAAP costs just in Maricopa County, (1/3 of our federal prisons are illegal aliens).

Arizona spends over $800 million (K –12) annually to educate illegals.

Over half of AHCCCS births are from illegal mothers 1/3 of children in Arizona have immigrant parents.

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion." Article IV Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution. ht

The basic difference is that the Irish and others immigrating to the U.S. wanted to become Americans ... a part of the melting pot. They were willing to accept the U.S. on its terms, not try to make the U.S. "New Ireland."

But not the first generation or two. I was talking with my mother last night on my way back from the Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoot. Her grandfather's name was Hiram Fredrick, he had been born in the US of parents from southern Germany, although he had siblings born in Germany as well. He spoke German some of the time at least. My Aunt's husbands family, who were also German, spoke German amongst themselves even at the time of my Aunt's marriage, probably in the early '40s, even as Hitler was rampaging around Europe and North Africa. I told her of my doctor's grandfather (and my doctor is at least 10-15 years younger than I am, who would not speak English at all in his home and presumably on the rest of his ranch on the South Texas plains southwest of San Antonio.

To make the USA, Mexico and Canada into some semblance of the EU would require further weakening of the constitution.

Well, to copy the EU certainly would, but to have an economic union, with no trade barriers and eased restrictions on travel between countries would not. Or we could all become one country, retaining the US Constitution, which has the greatest protections for individual liberties, of the constitutions of the 3 countries. Mexico's constitution is a joke as far as individual rights and liberty goes... but at least they can follow theirs while trampling on the rights of the people, our government must violate ours to do so. Which of course, they do.
