You may be on to a important point here. As some of us know, and it has been made public, so I say nothing one cannot read elsewhere, SOCOM shall be to an extent performing some duties that formally may have been assigned to the CIA. For example having special teams, perhaps a few members at a given foreign embassy, doing chores not formally handled by attached military personel.
Your analogy to a whithering vine does strike a cord that could not be so far fetched. For the most part one could assume our military folks for the most part really are more loyal, as well as diciplined in adhering to the rules of the road. To darn many academic types in the CIA, which lean or are far left libs. To many connections on the hill and DC in general. Put military folk in that are somewhat isolated from the DC scum pond and perhaps the CIA will eventually turn around. Sort of do their duty. Protect America and it's resources, comes to mind.
